Last week I lost my Spinali Bridge Head in our local Room, I was PISSED OFF after it was not turned in at the Desk. As one of our regulars shall I say is a TAD BIT FLAKEY, and I figured he was there about the time I left, and SNAGGED it.

Well last night I was up at the Pool room, and asked one of the Guy who was around when I lost if he had seen my Spinali. He replied he was ask by some Unknown third Party "who lost this"? Know it was mine, he picked it up for me. :D

Great topic, Sleuth. I've always thought that pool room regulars (as distinguished from the "rollin, trippin, snifflin" crew that drift in on weekend nights) were generally more honest and integrity-conscious than the general population. I think the reasons for this are: 1.Cheaters, players who stiff on paying off bets and/or loans, chronic liars (about stuff that matters), etc., find that they are not real welcome in the pool room family and get somewhat ostracized - since everyone more or less wants to be accepted, this keeps otherwise dishonest people on the straight and narrow; 2.As we see in this forum, players' reputations have a way of spreading, whether good or bad; they realize that crooked behavior can hit them in the pocketbook; and 3. Playing pool has a way of teaching decency, sportsmanship, and honesty to those who can observe and learn. There are scammers and jerks in any environment (just look at some of the politicians!), and pool rooms are no exception, but I am convinced that as a group, we ain't too bad in the character department.

Coonies is full of good people to this day

I know a guy who somehow forgot to take his custom sneaky pete home on league night. He didn't realize it was missing until the following week. He found it on the wall with the house cues.

Cooney reopened the place maybe a year ago. I think he has since sold it to his son in law. It is still a very nice place to play. I live in lafayette(about 45min from Logan), but I can remember going to Coonies with my dad since I was very young. He has been in three different buildings since I have been going there.

At Corner Billiards in NYC where everyone is a C Player practically- almost no bangers, i lost my 'Ultimate Tip Tool'.

I didnt realize it for TWO Weeks. Just for the heck of it, i asked about it at the front desk and the guy pulls it out from below the desk in about 3 seconds. I was so shocked- I wasnt even a regular there at the time. Then recently i lost my predator joint protectors- realized it 3 days later-sure enough they had'm. Very honest people there.

Most people are honest most of the time, especially in larger cities.

Most people are good people, and the few that are BAD make the Evening News Nightly. Good people, are for the most part only News Worthy on Slow News Days.

I worked for a short time in the 70's & 80's for a Law Enforcement Agency in South Central LA. 98% of the Major Crime Problems, were casued by the 2% BAD APPLES.

Often wondered how the are would have been effected by the Total Removal of that 2%.

I live about 25-30 minutes from there. I've met cubswin, scruggsinhand and howardthedick there. I'm not sure who adim-x is but probably would recognize him, if I saw him. I wonder if there are other AZers there, that we don't know of. Cooney's has 1st & 3rd Sunday open tourneys. Cooney's tournaments do draw a pretty good field. I haven't been down there for a while, I think, maybe I'll go next week.

Funny how things come up. I read this thread this morning. This afternoon I went to the pool hall. Opened my locker and ...no cue! The houseman was playing. I ask " do you have my cue behind the bar??" He said I'll see. Sure enough it was there. Somebody had my back! In 18 years at this pool hall I have left my cue maybe 4 or 5 times and always the same result. Pretty cool.;)
