Efren was asked do you use a "system" for banks/kicks he looked so confused LOL. He said "no no no system...Practice practice I practice all the time I shoot dsame shot over and over til I know where ball go" I AGREE WITH EFREN!! ✊✊ #Practice

It's nice that you agree that Efren doesn't use a system.

@gxman In his prime he was top 10 in banks and had to be #1 in kicking. SEVERAL INSANE kicks are all over Youtube!!

So, what's your point? That Efren learned to kick and bank before systems really took off so no one else needs to use them?

There is only one Efren. And the rest of us aren't him. So saying others don't need systems because he doesn't use them just doesn't work as an argument.

I'm saying that the METHOD he used THEN is just as effective NOW!! Practice Practice Practice!! ✔

Actually that is false. In Efren's prime, the fibers in the cloth were made of a slightly higher density filament, which allowed the ball to spin at a much faster rate of speed. This, in turn, allowed Efren to pull off some amazing trick shots that just wouldn't be possible on today's poly-carbon density cloth without the use of a system.

Ask yourself this question. Why aren't there any recent videos of Efren shooting an amazing kick?

Grady Matthews' systems

I don't agree with the idea that no tried and proven system exists.
Practicing the incorrect thing just produces more incorrect things. Guidelines are necessary as discipline tools to arrive at practicing perfect things.
Back around 1991 or 1992, Grady Matthews came out with a few VHS tapes about this. I have them. To my knowledge, no CD's exist of these tapes.
The systems were based around the concept of starting with known tracks (travel lines) and when the balls weren't exactly on those tracks, compensating for it by using parallel lines using the cuestick as a measuring tool to a corresponding target.
It was very very accurate. Using running English and a medium speed. It took all of 10 minutes to get adjusted to the cloth and rails on the various tables since those factors did enter into the accuracy. Some tables played 'short' or 'long'.
Jimmy Reid had something similar but it was not as comprehensive as Grady's.
I think Grady had Efren out on the road during those years. Whether Efren used the ideas or not is another question indeed. Except I do know that Grady "didn't make no bad bets".....most of the time.

Stick to what ever else you think you know, because you have no idea what you're talking about when it comes to pool cloth. Nylon was introduced into the weave of woven wool pool cloth way before Efren was even born. What's changed over the years is the marketing of a worsted woolen cloth over a woven woolen cloth. Championship Titan cloth is almost identical to the cloth on pool tables when Efren was growing up playing pool, so it's still around.

Umm..... The strange feeling you had in your leg as you read bbrlvr's post was his pulling. Now you've spoiled it.

I guess table manufacturers just mark the rails in increments for decoration. Its kinda funny but I use these "increment markers" for kicks and banks all the time.
There is also a thing called "spot on the wall" that 3C players use all the time. Pool players can also use this "system" very effectively. Kinda makes your comment about systems slightly inaccurate.

I definitely understand using some type of system as a guide but no system is more effective than playing continuously and knowing how balls react from what angles etc. My point was that Efren rose to his level without "systems".

Being a world class billiards player had something to do with that. He didn't just beat balls around until something magically happened. There is some acquisition of organized knowledge involved. Organized knowledge is by definition a system.

As far as #practice is concerned. Practice without knowledge is useless.
