Thickness of layered tips

No wonder I can't shoot

Hi Ladies and Gents

I have done a search on this subject and could not find the info I need.

I have purchased and recently installed 2 Sniper layered tips. They were very thick, about a strong 1/4". The installer did not remove any layeres and the tips are still very thick as compared to any I've seen. I do not use the Q for jumping or hard mass'es. Is there a forseeable problem leaving the tips so very thick? It does not bother me during shooting and the hit is great.

Thanx

Tiger Products may have a different summation but the rule of thumb I have always adhered to was that a tip should only be one third in height to its width. By this I mean that a 12mm tip should be 4mm tall, a 13mm tip = 3.35mm tall and so forth. This keeps the height proportionate with the width, has plenty of life and is not as apt to mushroom or flatten out.

If installed correctly the Sniper will not mushroom on you at all. If the tall tip does not affect your shooting then you could just leave it and get a lot more tip life. The only negative consideration is it may make the tip play a bit "softer" due to all the layers. I generally cut them about in half when I install them. If you look at the Sniper as it comes from Tiger on a new X shaft they are normally even a bit smaller than that. A lot of pros have their tips cut way down to almost looking as if it needs replaced...feeling that it gives them more "feel" of the cueball.
