Thinking about buying a Gold Crown (4?) that was moved by idiots

I found what looks to be a Gold Crown 4 in good condition. The only problem is the people that are trying to sell it didn't disassemble the table before they moved it. Instead they just took off the legs and used seven people to carry the top.

Now I know I should stay the hell away from the table but it is a pretty good deal. Besides cracked slate, what should I look for before purchasing a table that was transported and then stored (less than a week) on its side?

Thanks for the help,
Ed

Table

That table is very heavy, like 1200lbs heavy.

No telling how much damage they have done.... It's all fixable in my opinion tho.
They could have busted the aprons or rails where they connected together or where they join the slate.
They are lucky they did not get hurt... Very negligent.

You'll find a lot of golden information about the gold crown IV on these forums.

Best of luck.

All anyone can do is guess as to what could be damaged at this point in time, the major problem I see is getting the table into a position so it can BE taken apart without causing MORE damage....therefore owning the new damages alone with owning the table.

What a bunch of MORONS!!!

So I should jump on this for $1000 with Centennials, 8 cues, and a cue rack?

Believe it or not, I bought a GC I that was moved and stored in exactly the same manner as this table. (Disconnected from the pedestals and lifted/stored on it's side. Cost was $200.

I hired an experienced Brunswick mechanic to disassemble it and move it. Other than one of the aprons being scratched (obviously) and two cracked skirts, it was undamaged.

I'd say that was with some damage, undamaged would have arrived with no broken rail blinds:thumbup:

Only if the seller takes responsibility for getting the table off its side and down flat so it can be disassemble without breaking anything....if the rail blinds, pocket castings, or rails themselves haven't already been damaged storing it.

Thank you for all the help. I am having him and his minions put the table on the base so I can disassemble it safely, if he sells it to me.

Don't pay for it until you've taken it apart and looked at everything, make sure there serial numbers on the rails all match as well. The frame has every piece of it stamped with the same serial numbers as well, but not the same numbers as the rails.

Thanks for the help everyone. Cheeky bast@rd sold it before I got there. Now the search continues...

Thank you for that very important piece of information RKC, I will now always check the rails to make sure they have coinciding serial numbers and the base numbers match. I don't want to end up with one of those Frankenstein tables that everyone just loves.

Just out of curiosity I am looking for a Gold Crown, preferably a 10 footer with matching numbers. Anyone looking to sell one in the Sacramento area?

Thought I would throw that out there.
