This former priest loved billiards and painting.

I thought the title might catch your eye. :-)

How many of you guessed the artist right off. Personally, I had never seen this piece before. If I had a pool room at home, I would order a framed canvas print of this.

I don't know if any of you have seen this work of art by Vincent Van Gogh but thought you might be interested in knowing it exists. I'm curious where it is stored. May google later to find out. Wouldn't mind viewing it up close one day.

Happy Holidays.

My girlfriend and I like to go to those starving artist shows they have every so often. You can pick up an oil-painted copy for 40-50 bucks and slap a frame on it. I have one in my living room above my table.

It's hard to find billiard related artwork that isn't too cheesy IMO.:)

Hey "Phoenix", I mean Hamster. You get rep.
Now when am I going to visit Yale? Has anyone ever seen the original?
Thanks

Nice pool table right next to the kitchen.

Actually, the painting (The Night Cafe in the Place Lamartine in Arles, 1888) has been posted here before along with my essay detailing it's origins. The colors in the image you provided are washed out and not faithful to the original which can be seen in all its glory at Yale University.

Hi Joey:

I have seen it before. It's at Yale University Gallery

5 Years after this painting. Paul Gauguin went to the same location and made "At the Cafe".

Of course, it's all a matter of personal taste, but, if I could afford it, I'd have a painting by Arthur Robins on my wall. :)

I saw it several years ago. My wife and I drove up to Yale to see a Winslow Homer show and as we strolled through the gallery I bumped into Van Gogh's pool table. It was totally unexpected and, for someone who has traveled to NYC and DC to see Van Gogh retrospectives, a pleasant surprise. :)

Mine comes closest to original.

Back in 1980 when I first bought my room, I went to a small room in Scotts Valley, Ca. where they had an 8 table room and a restaurant. As I sat at the counter to order a drink I looked up and saw this hugh canvas painting of that Van Gough. At the time, not familiar with a Van Gough with pool in it, I was impressed. The painting was a copy done by a local artist that was going to University of California, Santa Cruz. Concidentally the owner of the place was putting this painting up for sale but I knew she would have a hard time selling it because of its size. It is about 10x10 or more, I can't remembrer but I will go measure it today to refresh my memory. So I offered her $200 because I had a large empty wall that it would fit perfectly on. Well I hauled it away and put it up in my room in 1980 and it has been there ever since. It is a great re creation by the artist and it is hard to tell the difference from the pictures I have seen. I also get kidded a lot that the main character in the picture has to be me.
If anyone goes to my website, in the one picture if you click on it to make it bigger you can barely see the canvas painting on the wall on left. If I can figure out how to do it, I will take another one and post if if anyone cares or just to prove I am not b.s. This canvas is big. I never found the artist to compliment him but I know this copy is probably worth a lot more than 200 now. I have no idea how long it took him to paint it but it is good.

That was nice, Wei. While I am not a billiards or art expert by a long shot; Bob Jewitt's interpretation got me to wondering about the use of opiates.

Well you can at least give the artist credit. :-) Who was he?

Joey:

This type of shots is also named a "zigzag" shot. When done well, it is very exciting :D

There was a special shot from 2001 Hoppe Cup Torbjorn Blomdahl / Frederic Caudro match at Carom Cafe. It happens at 23:09 of this video
http://caromtv.com/videos/cc201-11_dsl.wmv
(At Http://CaromTv.com >> Website Features >> Free View , there are a few great example 3C videos )

Here is the layout for the shot, I saw it in person:

Now you are awaken I believe, let's come back to the subject. Bob's solution (page 1) was quite close to the one by Grand Master Raymond Ceulemans (page 2). It is a very sensible solution which requires a thin hit with a good punch stroke.

I wish you have a chance to try 3C. I believe you will love it.

Dang me, forgot

I wasn't at work and didn't think to get that. Then when I went, it was to watch the niners kick ass so I didn't think of it. Oh well, will post it tomorrow.
