This might save our cues and cases from theft

kipkay strikes again!

great hack
is there any suggestions for defending oneself against someone who missed their shot because the alarm went off?

There is quite a variety of alarms available, some which may require a little expertise to install. The beeping is a minor noise, compared to the "thump thump thump" of the thief's head being dribbled across the poolroom floor.

I checked on this subject a few years ago. A proximity alarm designed for children was the closest thing that I thought that might be useful and/or converted for pool use but they are still to large to be hidden inside the case. Basixcally its an audible alarm that can be attached to your keychain if the other device that attached to your case for instance gets farther away than say 25ft (or any distance you set it to)an alarm goes off. This would free you up to move about the poolroom not set off the alarm but if someone was to say leave the building they have a head start but you at least you know your cue is being stolen at that moment. You and 25 of your friends can go outside to the parking lot and make sure this never happens again at least from that guy.

It's been awhile since we've had a cue theft around these parts, but the last one I remember involved the consumption of adult beverages.
That is to say, the owner of the cue got drunk and when he wasn't looking someone ripped him off.
It happens more than you realize.

I use a POS sportcraft case to prevent theft. Ten bucks at walmart. I guess I lose some cool points for not having a nice case, but I get to keep my pretty cue safe.
