This ought to be a tournament rule!

OK, the nature of the thread is this:

Describe something that you think could or should be a rule for tournament play (as unlikely as it may be), and why. Reply to others (but we already know their post will probably not be a rule, so don't beat them on the head).

I'll start:

Jump cues should only be allowed on the shot following the break (regardless of who broke), AND in the first shot while coming to the table. You can jump your way out of a safety that was set on you. You cannot use the jump cue after your first shot in an inning, so if you hook yourself, too bad; you have to use your playing cue (with no modifications, meaning you can't unscrew it or shorten it).

Reason:

Jump cues are not going away. The sponsors sell cues. The sponsors want to sell jump cues. But I think if you hook yourself, there should be a harsher penalty than jumping your way out.

OK, what do you have for us?

Don’t like it. I have occasionally played shape to an easy jump shot, as part of my pattern. Sometimes it’s the best option for opening up the table, and some balls you just can’t get to

-15 sec shot clock, no extensions. Make this tournament move!
-Magic rack only. Wood rack takes too long to rack and leads to more clusters and longer games.
-If it's double elimination, get rid of the second final set. Takes too long. Anti-climatic.
-Make all tournaments single elimination so they get done at a reasonable time.

1. Place chalk on the rail upside down - automatic BIH foul.

2. If you complain about the shape you left yourself or your opponent left you (9b/10b), opponent has the option to shoot from there.

3. Any Corey style pattern racking is a loss of game. No warnings.

9-ball

If the breaker makes a ball, he must pushout. If he does not make a ball on the break, the opponent has the option to push out.

I’m sure the situation someone will come up with the obvious way of why it won’t work

since pushing out you make yourself the underdog it would not be wise to open the rack on the break.

then when he makes you pushout you are lesser of a dog

9 ball all balls made on the break spotted. now there is more play to the game rather than just run out.
or 9 ball you cant run out from the break. and each player gets one only pushout per game.

or 6 ball and you must bank one shot in each game

but shorter rack rotation has been conquered and no longer a good game to play or watch with pros.
