Doesnt seem that long. But in other ways it was forever ago. Just six years ago this forum had quite a few posters. The crumbling economy combined with fifty other social behavior changes like video games and casinos and smoking laws and higher rents have all contributed to this place almost being a ghost town. Sad to see it. Many of my friends in the billiard room business have gone under for one reason or another. Glad we are still making it but it is still sad the state that rooms are in. Just reminiscing.

6 years-I would have guessed it had been here longer than that. In just the time I have been on az, there has been a noticable decline in the posts in this area (though I still check everyday:smile:) Every time I see a poster here selling out in the 'wanted for sale' section I say "really? That place looked great." Amost all of my friends from the last 20+ years are gone from the business. I miss being able to pick up the phone and say 'it's really slow here. Is it slow there?, or am I doing something wrong?' Reminiscing too, I guess. I'm certain that if there is one pool room left on earth, it will ours--or maybe yours. Best of luck and happy anniversary. Dave Smith

Some good news ...

I just bought a Pool Hall that been in existence 30 years. I checked this forum now and before I bought to see what was going on around the country and what other owners were doing to expand, survive, or just enjoy their business. Fortunately, pool and the economy are strong in our area and both are supporting 4 other multiple table halls. I'm very lucky.

Wow-- that is shocking. I would have bet this forum was around more than 6 years. How long has AZ been around?

Call me crazy, but I am seriously investigating getting back in. It is a tough business for sure but one that I have always been drawn too. I'm over 60 so I can't get a job worth a damn. Had to interview with a 25 year old last week for a position I could have done in my sleep. I was actually kind of excited about it because I saw the company as one with great potential. But you know the rest of that story.

So, I have finally decided for better or for worse, finding a small place-- 8 or 10 tables, with a small bar and maybe a kitchen. Will try to sell tables and do repairs. Also sell cues, via internet and on site. And maybe I will actually finish book 2.

So there you have it. Now the big trick is for me to remember all this later.......
