I saw this cue on ebay and was considering bidding but was concerned by what the seller ment by refurbished

I sent an email with the following ?'s

What do you mean by refurbished? Refinished? If so who did the work?

The sellers response:

A local man, Every really nice and expensive stick sort of goes in for a checkup to make sure it's still straight and weighted correctly.

I'm sure Thomas Wayne feels much better that the "local guy" checked to make sure it was weighted correctly:eek:

Hope you all get a chuckle out of this as I did. Won't be bidding on this one.

I e-mailed the seller and asked him who "refurbished" the Wayne cue. Rather than answering my question, he e-mailed me his phone number. I called the phone number and got no answer. Go figure.

I finally received an response to my question to the eBay seller concerning the name of the person who supposedly "refurbished" the Tomas Wayne cue. His answer is as follows: "I'll call the owner this morn and get back to you." So, the eBay seller does not even own the cue.

I think you are making a big deal of the whole thing..
These is a Thomas Wayne 8 pointer and look to be very nice, the cue is now at $810.00 it will probaly go up but you still might get a good deal on the cue.

my buddy sent his cue to Wayne to be refurbished and he never got it back.apparently he went to jail at some point in his life right after my buddy sent the cue to him and my buddy never got his cue back.anyone ever heard anything like this before?

I ended up the high bidder for this cue. Per the seller the refinish was done by Troy Downey, a cue maker with a pretty good reputation. Final cost was $1000 including shipping so I don't think I "stole" it but likewise I don't think I messed up too badly. What do you think??

He has been known to take a long, long time to return cues sent to him for repairs or restoration.

It is a very beautiful cue !!!!!

I was watching it and almost bid on it, just don't have the spare funds right now.

I hope you get it and it exceeds your expectations!!!!

Please give us an update once you recieve the cue. If it has no "issues" once you get it I think you got a great buy.

i think 5-6 years is way too long.maybe my buddy will get his cue back.it was somewhat fancy he said.

You definitely stole it. :) IMO it's easily worth $500 more than what you paid even with the "refurbishment". I think I may have been offered this same cue some years ago (or maybe its twin but with snakewood) for roughly double what you paid. That's one of the few real pluses about a down-market like we are in....if you look, there are some good buys to be had. That's a very attractive TW cue and certainly a good buy at $1000.

The cue was refinished by Troy Downey, a cue maker whose name is often mentioned favorably on AZBilliards. I spoke with him this morning and he confirmed he did the refinish and advised the cue had no "issues". So, lucky me!!!

Well I also think you got a great deal.
If I was looking for a cue I would definetely have tried to get my hands on it :)
Give us some info when you get it how it plays I am curious about Thomas Wayne cues how the cues plays stiff, medium? After seeing the shaft pictures I would guess it is stiff.
Enjoy the cue!
