I'm 6' with broad shoulders and a 35" sleeve length in a dress shirt. After some experimenting, and owning cues in 57", 58", 59", and 60", I found that 59" or maybe 58 1/2" was perfect for me. The 60" was just a bit too long. It's entirely possible that I could have gotten used to it in time, but I just gravitated back to the 59s. Everyone has a different style, and different dimensions, but the goal should be to have a vertical forearm when you are addressing the cue ball, with the tip right at the ball and a level cue. The cue needs to be well balanced with your hand in that position, which for me is with my hand at the back of the wrap. That is as close as I can describe it, but many players are playing with a cue that is way off.
Mosconi always recommended placing your hand 3-5" behind the balance point. He was 5' 6" or so and I don't think he took into account different players height. I noticed the other day that Ray Martin had his hand way up in the front of the wrap when he was World Champion, very near the balance point, and he had a gorgeous stroke, but they were playing 14.1 and stood up straighter and used a shorter bridge length. We are playing more 8, 9, and 10 Ball, and we get down lower on the cue. I have deduced that requires your hand further back to get your forearm verticle at the set...Tom
