Three people in this photo, but I'm only sure about two of them

Can you name these three people? At least two of them were pretty strong pool players. Hint: The picture was taken in the early 1980s.

They aren't computer geeks

Aren't they the founders of Microsoft?
JG-in_KY was correct about Dick Lane, he's the one on the right. Dickie is pretty smart, but he didn't found Microsoft. I think that might have been Paul Allen and Bill Gates?

Not Nick

Is one of them nick varner or frank thompson?
Wow, you just about won the prize. Frank Thompson is correct!!! The middle one, of course.

Damn that Focus Magic!

Shoot, I guess I shouldn't have used Focus Magic to sharpen the details of that photo!:)

As for the prize, how about my eternal admiration?:D

Steve Puckett, Frank Thompson, and Dick Lane

Thanks to all who replied to my original post! I can now correctly caption this photo when I put it up in a gallery on Smugmug.

On the left: This is a bit of a stab in the dark, but it looks a lot like Pete Balner of Palmer Cues who was also a tournament director back then. At one point in the late 1970's, he was tournament director for the PPPA.

In the Middle: Frank Thompson, because he's holding a plaque that say "Congratulations Frank Thompson". Nasty trick if it's not him.

On the Right: Dick Lane, in his early thirties, I'd guess.

I believe that the guy on the right is Steve Puckett

Right, that's Dick on the right. And I stupidly forgot to blur the plaque that shows Frank's name. I was just told by a good source that the guy on the left is Steve Puckett and that he is related to the old road player, U.J. Puckett. Thanks for the guess!
