Tiger T.I.M.

Thanks for the post - it was very interesting. Is that a router cutter mounted on a Dremel tool? Still like using the Utility Knife blade better unless you're doing a hundred tips.

I have a tool bit with a nickel radius that I use for one piece tips. Seconds to set on quick change tool post and cut but I can see how router bit spinning would make doing laminated tips easy also. And, as said before, the razor blade works just fine.

Right... I was thinking I might try something like this on a one-piece phenolic jump/break tip cut from rod material. Using it on leather tips seems like overkill. Maybe it would help to keep layered tips from delaminating but I haven't had that problem (as of yet).

Haven't had any trouble doing laminated tips. Probably just a little slower than the tim. Just curious if anybody knows what Tiger charges for their tim tool?

The set-up is $995: router (Porter Cable), gizmo jig, and 2 blades (dime & nickel radiuses). The blades and rest/jig are custom made with all kinds of goody adjustments.

I had to put a tip on for a guy last week, believe me when I tell you I have no business working with machinery, and was able to do so with no problem.

With this set-up, a little kid or any schmo off the street can install, trim, and shape any tip in less than 30 seconds. It's tha nutz!

The "gizmo" is developed and intended for high volume. And since it aint cheap most repair folk may see it as overkill - to each his own, but if you had a mobile set-up at a show (big volume weekend), it would pay for itself.

With the speed of the router, we can do thousands of tips before any blade sharpening is needed.

If body is in the LA area, you are more than welcome to come by and check it out.

Hi,

You have to put on a lot of tips to get back your "Return On Investment".

Good luck to Tiger but I don't think I will be investing in one of these units because the skill set to shape a tip does not take that long to master.

I remind, the intention is for high volume; e.g. production cue makers: McDermott, Jacoby, Predator, and the like.
