Hey all.

I'm considering to buy one, which one should I get and why, all I know is one has longer ferrule and one has shorter ferrule. for me I don't like shorter ferrule, but why else should i consider it?

Another question about the Tiger x partial shafts, I saw them on their website, they are blank shafts of the same model but they don't have a tiger X logo on the picture, is this how they are delivered if I buy the Partial shaft, will it come to me without logo?

The X logo comes with the partial shaft, it`s designed to put on after you have finished the joint work, but before laquering the shaft.
The ferrule size, depends on wich shaft you choose. Tiger makes 3 different ones:
- PRO-X - 11.75mm tip diameter, gradual taper.
- Ultra-X - 12.75mm tip diameter, pro taper and 1/2 ferrule
- Ultra-X LD - 12.75mm tip diameter, pro taper and 1/4ferrule

So the ferrule length has to do with the LD characteristics of the shaft.

Kim But I can ask not to put the logo right? also I'm asking in playibility how are they compared to mezz shafts between the ultra-x and ultra-x LD, I'm still not sure which one to buy, ive been using hpII before and wanting to change

for those that tried both ultra-x and ultra-x LD, do you notice big difference in play

I play with a Tiger Ultra X LD 30" shaft and it's the best shaft I've used.

Mezz shafts are one piece maple, while Tiger shafts are laminated, so there is a difference in feel right there...
WX900 seems to be somewhere in between 314² and Z² with regards to LD performance.
I have not played enough with Tiger shafts to come with a definitive conclusion, but the ones I have tried have felt nice, but I`m not sure about their LD performance?
The new OB+ shafts are also one piece maple and might be worth checking out?
Bob Danielsons SS360² also gets very praise, but I have no experience with the SS360 series shafts.
Remember that Predator is slated to release 314³ and Z³ later this month, so it might be worth waiting?

i was thinking about the tiger shafts before going with the mezz cue, mostly because a lot of people who tried all sgafts described the mezz shafts as being stiffer.

the ultra x seems to be very comparable to a traditionnal maple shaft, but maybe its not enough "LD" for you if thats what you are looking for (the hp 2 you are using seems to have an advantage here).

The Ultra X LD seems to be between the 314 and wx700 (more traditionnal feel than 314 but more deflection)

Best thing you can do is try the shafts out, i wanted to go with a Z shaft but it felt terrible to me (dead), ob was too soft (was the one with wood ferrule), felt immediately comfortable with the mezz.
I would rather wait and try out before investing several 100 bucks into material

I agree with this. The Tiger Ultra X shafts play more like a traditional maple shaft. The lower deflection is noticeable, but not as severe as an OB or Z2.

The ferrule length should be the last of your concerns. Once you get used to the short ferrule, you won't like long ones anymore.

The LD is a low squirt shaft plays similar to the Predator 314. The standard Ultra is their original shaft and plays like a conventional shaft with normal amounts of squirt. The Ultra has a smoother feel and quieter hit in my opinion but the LD has lower squirt.

A "partial" shaft has to be fitted to your cue by a cue maker or by Tiger and it comes with a loose logo decal. They are best for custom lengths or unusual fits, for matching rings, or for people like me who want a perfect fit, or more importantly, perfect alignment. After the shaft is fit to the cue, the logo decal is applied and clear coated.

I play with a Pro X and love it.

Thx all, I actually bought both to try them out, the Ultra-X and Ultra-X LD.

I actually noticed that when Dennis Orcollo got sponsored by them he used Ultra-X LD (Short ferrule) for few months, then he switched to Ultra-X (normal length ferrule) for some reason, so there must be something to this, he actually played better after he switched. maybe he is not used to LD shafts or something.

So I wana try both and see for myself which is best for me.

Dennis uses the X-Pro.

Dennis uses the X-Pro.

No he doesn't, never used it, I've spoken to him.

You can actually watch videos from 2012 then he was using Ultra-X LD (short ferrule) but a 12.75mm shaft, then on 2013+ you can see recent videos of him using Ultra-X (long ferrule) and he told me it's the Ultra-X tiger shaft, but his doesn't have logo so I assumed it's a partial ultra-X to match his ringwork.

Imo the Ultra is horrible is you want any type of LD. It deflects worse than
most maple shafts. The Ultra LD is much much better than the Ultra but
still deflects much more than OB's or Predators.

I just recently purchased a tiger sneaky pete cue with the pro x shaft, and I can honestly say it's one of the best cues I've ever hit with. This shaft plays like a 1 piece maple cue, with the low deflection characteristics of an Ob plus pro. I would highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for a new shaft
