I haven't seen any threads about Tim Padgett's cues so I thought I would share my latest acquisition. I'm planning to make it my new player but it's in need of a refinish and probably a shaft re-taper. I don't have any specs except that it's extremely forward weighted with the balance point at 19.5in from the butt. I'd like to try and get it to 18.5in after I re-taper the shaft and add a heavier weight bolt. Handle is cork.

Definately a keeper!

Timmy is not making many cues anymore. He has been working full-time for Imperial International.
 
Wrap

Thanks Corey. I was thinking of replacing the cork with a stacked leather wrap that resembles the look of curly maple. Is this color scheme easy to replicate and do you have any sample pics?

I had a feeling you would say that. What's your suggestion? I am leaning towards a stack wrap but conflicted on color. Lizard would be nice too.
 
I have been talking to Tim Padgett (most recently a few days ago) and hope to have a group of cues from him in the near future. Tim's another excellent SoCal cuemaker with years of experience at the craft. He is now set up to make cues part time. I like his attention to detail and his build quality. I'd love to offer a selection of his fine cues and work with people on custom orders.

first off....consider the overall look. A is what the cue looks like now. the other options reflect the different shades of wrap. you are opting for "B".

secondly....with the rather bold figuring on your bem nose, a stack wrap MIGHT make your cue look too striped, from tip to butt. if that's the look you're going for, then that's what you'll get.

thirdly....is the cork wrap cut at the same depth as leather or linen???

Send the pic to Tim, if he is still making limited amount of cues mebbe he will work on his old cues. I am sure he will give you suggestions on the wrap color and he can refinish it then too...

I like "C". Good point on the too stripey comment... your cue would look "screwy". Pun intended. ;)

Tough to say what would look good with that cue. If you make it out to a show that we are set up at Tiger Show Schedule bring it with and let Elia take a look.

Tim is certainly one of those under the radar cuemakers. I have known the guy for almost 20 years. We lived on the same street and played outta the same pool room (his Mom even worked at my Elementary School).

When that guy was playing (good player), you should seen his break, Awesome!!!

Martin, I love what you are doing in bringing the West Coast Cuemakers out into the limelight. They certainly deserve it and there has been a renaissance going on for many years.

Any of you out there should for sure stop by the Western Cue booth at Valley Forge for some great stuff!
 
The forearm is curly maple and butt is amboyna burl. Both pieces of wood are nicely figured. - Jason
 
Padgett does great work & that is nice!

If you find one with points in it you will be very impressed. Nobody does point work any better than Padgett.
