I had a cue for sale($2800.00) and a guy wanted to use escrow and asked if i'd ship the cue to Proficient(i used Fed ex overnite, $46.00). The guy buying the cue was supposedly a very respected cue collector and had done deals with Proficient in the past. Anyway Proficient gave my cue a mint cond. rating and sent the results to both of us. Well the buyer decided not to do the deal and tried to negotiate a lower price, i said no. I then had to send Proficient another m.o. to have it sent back to me overnite(another $46+). I guess it could have been worse if he stuck me with the escrow fees too but I told him if we use escrow he was responsible for the fees and called Scott to make sure. So in the end it cost me $96.00 to have the cue see what Scott's shop looked like.
I'm not in a position to judge the actions of the buyer but I do feel that a MINT rating will automatically conclude the sale. What I've done in a deal with Proficient is I ask the buyer to send the payment to Proficient even before I send the cue. Scot or Matt must get the checks cleard first.... that way, the only possible setback will be the actual condition of the cue. Though I think Scot will send the cue to the buyer first before sending the payment.
