Scruggs owner
I own a Scruggs sneaky pete I ordered from his shop in the early 90s, which is in my regular rotation along with a few other custom cues. Many of his early customers recall the drive up the gravel road to his first shop, before he moved to Leeds ave off Wilkens from the beltway. I ordered to custom specs and paid 180, still have original receipt as I knew it would be worth more one day, especially with the provenance of having original receipt. It was a pure sneaky, no joint or butt cap, as they were about 220, and I wanted a true sneaky. In my opinion joint and butt cap eliminate the concept of a sneaky pete. Either way, they play incredibly well. When I was discussing options with Tim the standard white joints were some type of synthetic, Ivorine 3 or something like that. Ivory would have certainly been about a couple hundred more, so at that point why not simply buy a stock cue with a wrap and no points?
As to earlier posts, I would guess the joint is a synthetic of some kind. Although the post states ivory joint in the title and description, I noticed the ebay listing does not. Clarification would help.
As to price, does it matter whether it is posted or one has to ask? If you are interested just ask. On trips to the Super Billiards expo about half the cuemakers and vendors didn't have prices posted, so asking should be no big deal.
Completed listings in ebay have an original/unplayed/as new sneaky pete with 2 shafts both ivory ferrules went for 560. Also completed item a cue with wrap, no points, 2 ivory spears in each of 4 cocobolo ovals 3 shafts only one with ivory ferrule went for 805. That may provide a reference point.
