Q-Street said:Are ivory ferrules changed differently from a non ivory ferrule? What's the Fiber pad used for, and is it simply superglued on the ferrule? Thanks in advance.

Sheldon said:In theory, the fiber pad keeps lateral (sideways) forces from being exerted on the ferrule by a thin or mushrooming tip. This factor is very minimal (or non-existant) with capped ferrules, and/or layered tips. The only reasons I ever put a fiber pad on a ferrule is by customer request, or if I have a thin-walled, through ferrule made of brittle material.
