D = dome height
C = coin radius
T = tip diameter
Substituting C = 8.955 mm for a dime radius
and T = 12 mm, for a 12 mm tip diameter
we obtain: D = 2.307 mm
Substituting C = 8.955 mm for a dime radius
and T = 13 mm, for a 13 mm tip diameter
we obtain: D = 2.795 mm
Since S = H - D ,
where: S = shoulder height
and H = thickness of new, unshaped tip,
we can easily see that the difference in shoulder height in a 12 mm tip and a 13 mm tip, both shaped to a dime radius, is less than 0.5 mm. I know of no production tip where this is a significant portion of the tip thickness.
I believe tip scuffing method, chalking method, how often a player reshapes the tip and how hard a player likes to shoot all have a larger affect on tip life than the choice between a nickel and dime radius.
It is illogical to allow tip diameter to influence one's choice of tip shape.
