I got this "tip tapper" 30-some years ago from a friend. I was wondering if they're still made and if so where can I get another? It works like a champ and I'd like to have a back-up.. Thanks for any help,

Brad

That was the Porcupine tip tool, and it hasnt been made in years. The closest thing out there today is the tip pik and its variations.

NOT recommended for layered tips. Best i've found for layered tips is the Kamui Gator. Kinda pricey but it will never wear out. Gives just enough texture to hold chalk. A file will do same job but the Gator fits in pocket really well.

Thanks! Can't figure why they'd quite making it. (Googled it named as you said and there it was! )

I agree

I am usually against anything Kamui because I think they are horribly overpriced , That being said I begrudgingly paid 35 bucks for a Kamui gator a couple years ago and it has been hands down the best scuffer shaper I have owned , I highly recommend them

Yeah, the Kamui is the best for just scuffing up a tip. Basically takes nothing off and is safe for layered tips. Provides a great chalk holding surface. I have that and a Last 4 Ever I use for shaping, love both.

Missed this when I posted ( I must type slow LOL)... I've been using it on Moori layered, and G2. I haven't had any trouble yet, why the "not recomended"? Back when I used to play I used LePro, just ordered some a few days ago FWIW.

What is the Kamui Gator, when I google it I see a wood box with metal inside?.. is it a file or like a diamond knife sharpener?

If you're rambunctious with it you can cause layers to delaminate. So I've heard, anyhow.

tip pik is essentially the same thing, just on a smaller scale.

Like your tool, not recommended for layered tips, but the odds are pretty good you'll never have a problem.

Anyone have a close up of a Kamui Gator? Is it just a flat pocket file?

The Gator has a flat piece of laser cut abrasive steel on it that you roll across your tip. It raises the fibers to hold chalk while doing minimal damage.

I have one, it's the only tool I use.

Yep. The Morakami isn't anywhere close to the Kamui. That's why its only 15bux.
