Tip/ferrule replacement tools/kit

I'd like to try my hand at replacing tips and ferrules. Any recommendations on a kit that I can buy with tools/supplies?

I have a few old cues that I can practice on before working on my better cues. I'm just a casual 5-ranked APA player.

I’m not sure how you’d do a ferrule without a lathe. When I first started doing my own tips I used a cue top sander to flatten the ferrule, glued the tips on by hand and used a utility knife to trim the tip close to the ferrule. I’d mask off the ferrule and sand the tip flush(close to flush) with the ferrule. Results were pretty good but I wasn’t always happy and broke down and bought a lathe.

I started the same as Rodney; I too ended up with a lathe. Replacing a tip will be much faster and you will be able to easily replace ferrules too. Good luck as you go forward.

Dr. Dave did video on Tip replacement, it was good.👍

I am the guy who lets Professionals do it, because they have skill, and experience.

Price is what I consider reasonable because they have investment in equipment to do right, and experience.

For ferrules, I think you need a lathe unless you don't care about it being flush.

For tips, here is one way to do it with minimal equipment:
Even if you end up with more equipment to make it go faster, you can learn a lot about the process with this way.

There are several channels on youtube that show how to make a small lathe run by a drill . Or I see them on Craigslist for 50 to 150 dollars , you don't need much of a lathe to do tips but it would be handy to have for burnishing etc.
