Tip hardness tests on youtube

Thats pretty cool. Is that what people call a durometer? Thanks for sharing.
Jeff

That's an excellent way of checking tip hardness. It's a D scale durometer. Until I accidently broke mine I had a near perfect record of differentiating between good and bad LePro and Triangle tips.

BTW, a stand is a must. I've seen people trying to use a durometer by hand. That absolutely won't work. The stand in the video is a good one and perfect for this kind of operation. Stands and durometers vary a lot in quality and price and the stands are usually a lot more expensive than the gage itself.

There is a used Rex gauge on EBay for $50.
I know nothing about them other than it seems that the cheapest Rex you can buy is $395. The cheapest of the stands I saw was $1175.00

I think I'll take my chances on the Le Pros and Triangles, altho you might want to replace yours Charlie.

@ ctyhntr:

Forget that Shore A durometer. As macguy said: it is for softer materials, and most cue tips are too hard for it. Furthermore - as one said - you need a test stand to get serious results.
If you use such a handheld durometer, you are not able to push with a constantly pressure and a constantly angle for the cone.

I know that Tiger products use such a "tire durometer". But that fact does not make it better.

I was looking at one of your other videos one where you are installing a Kamui black tip. You are using some kind of tool for centering and pressing the tip on. Is that something you made or is it something you can buy?
