Tip keeps getting shredded

I am knowledgeable about some stuff, but I don't know anything about tips. Many of you do.

This is the second time that I have damaged the tip on my 11.8 Revo. The first time it came with whatever tip was installed. The second time I believe a Kamui HII tip was used. The installer is a professional and the damage does not have anything to do with his work. The edge of the tip keeps ripping, maybe 1-2mm from the edge.

I am thinking either that I am abusing the tip by both hitting balls too hard (I play a lot of straight pool and 235, and I hit some pretty aggressive spin shots sometimes), and I also keep my shaft in my car all of the time in Boston weather, which may be drying out the tip? I also prefer hard tips because they last longer but maybe are more brittle?

What are your thoughts?

after looking at this picture again, the tip doesn't look like it has been burnished very well at all

i have 50 year old tips on some of my cues that still do well.
but your professional installer should have advised you of the problem or at least told you the tips were brittle or whatever made them split.

learn to do your own tips. it is easy and takes little time and you get exactly what you want as you adjust its shape as you want it.

That is probably because the BLADE used to shape the sides while it is turned on the lathe IS NOT SHARP. This has been mentioned here several times.

I have used layered hard tips from several brands and have never had any split like yours. They are all quite a few years old. Currently I have Precision (Searing), G2, Instroke, Zan, and Talisman. I also have a couple Triangle tips and one Kamui Clear Black Medium. I also use a gator shaper and nothing else to treat the tips.

I have some experience in failure analysis. Considering you arent buying fake tips, or the weather. The rip on the top is happening from some horizontal stess. Which could be caused by scuffing in the wrong direction. You want to scuff center to edge. You shouldn't need a tip pick.

Looks like there's a crack happening on the other side of the tip as well. Are you drilling into some old chalk, or hitting your tip on the table a lot? It looks like chalk on the side of the tip. How many tips have you done this with?

Why is your ferrule so scuffed? I've had the same revo for years and mine is solid white.

Good input. No I never scuff my tip, maybe once in a blue moon, and I only roll a gator grip on it gently. I also chalk properly by swiping, no drilling.

I have played 3C with this shaft many times and the balls are a bit heavier. But they rip when playing pool.

Put a bulletproof green on it. Problem solved.
