Why twist with the pick?Depends on the type of tip you're using.
Tip pics on layered tips are risky as they can penetrate layers and then twist, separating the layers
Traditional scuffers like the brad are pretty coarse and will wear the tip quickly.
Scuffers like the kamui gator (there are many brands offering same) are the way to go, imo.
Rub it gently, baby.
The twist can be subtle though. Perfectly vertical is probably tough without some sort of guide? Why twist with the pick?
just tap lightly or press it down gently.
I've never had a tip delaminate on me due to using a pick.
The only denger with the pick when tapping with it is if miss the edge, you nigh cut the tip a bit.
I migh pick up a modern style scuffer and see what it's all about...

Oh, I hear ya and have stuck the prick in straight many times. The guide is, "push straight down"
If you tap it rather than push it, there's no time for a twist to occur. Have used nothing but Tip Piks on my layered tips for decades - never a "twist" or delamination. The twist can be subtle though. Perfectly vertical is probably tough without some sort of guide?
Never had a problem with the pick on hard tips. I also use it on the phenolic tips of my breal and jump cuesI used to use a tip pick, but i have since switched from a soft to hard tip and the pick doesn't work as well. Just use a Willard's tool when i need it, which is a lot less with the hard tip.
It works better on the soft and it's just easier to hit the tip with the Willard.Never had a problem with the pick on hard tips. I also use it on the phenolic tips of my breal and jump cues
I've bought all the "toys" and tools at one point or another. The best thing I've every used is a 1" square of about 220 grit sandpaper. It works better, isn't tearing the hell out of your tip and costs pennies. A 1" square of sandpaper is literally the best tip tool there is.What do you prefer and use and why?
Before I quit pool, most players would use the tip pick, now I see that most use a scuffer.
Now that I'm back, I still use the Tip-Pick but was wondering if there is an advantage to a scuffer?

I saw a guy quickly stabbing his tip slide off the leather and stab himself in the knuckle. It bled!I seen people who over Pick destroy a perfectly good Layered Tip.
