I use toughened epoxy for gluing tips these days, Unless the customer specifically asks for the quick fix.
It is the common view out here amongst players, that using cyano glues is just quick and temporary until it can be epoxied on for a proper job.
That being said, the 2 surfaces must be very flat to keep a tip on, no matter the glue.
This is why one brand has come out with a flat disc on the bottom of their tips. To keep the superglue off the sides and to give a flat surface to bond the tip with.
If you clamp epoxy glue and tip too tight, you risk squeezing out all the adhesive and result is a dry/poorly glued joint.
With most cyano glues, the thinner the bond thickness the stronger is the bond. But not all cyano glue is equal , so read any info on the specific glue before you use it.Some will give you a bond thickness range, like 0.05mm to 0.2mm for example( gap filling super glue)
General rule for cyano is 1 drop per square inch of surface area, excluding the wick in of the tip itself.
The other cause of failure, is disturbing the bonded surfaces before the adhesive has had sufficient time to set or cure.
