Tip question

I've noticed that some tips have a colored spacer between the tip and ferrel. Is that something you can add to any tip, or do certain tips come with that? If so, what tips come with the spacer? Thanks.

Thats what the pads are meant for, protecting ivory ferrules. If your Carmeli cue doesnt have ivory ferrules then i'm sure Carmeli didnt put the pad on there. It was probably done by the previous owner.

Fiber Pads

Besides protecting the ferrule some people like them because of the way they look (the red ones) and I think they slightly change the way the tip feels when playing. Sort of like a shock absorber.......

I had an ivory ferrule on my original Joss shaft and the little reddish pad, when the tip got bad I changed it myself and didn't put a pad on the ferrule.

I hit a hard draw shot in the bar one night and the ferrule broke and cracked the shaft about a half inch on one side.

I wanted to throw up at that point plus I decided never to use an ivory ferrule again.

On the upside I had Troy Downey make me a new shaft and it hit better than any other shaft I've ever had.

I agree with the other posters regarding protection through impact displacement and in some cases, some manufacturers might feel that it enhances the "hit".

Some of the tips that come with fibre pads are:
Champion
Super Royal
Triumph
