Just a quick question,Which Tom Hayes UltraSkin tip is the closest to the Kamui Black Super Soft. Was thinking it was the soft but I see they also make a super soft and now a Pro. Does anyone know which would be the closest to the Kamui SS. Thanks, Michael
 
I have tried them all and I'd say that that its either the soft or very soft. They have a bit different feel to them, ultraskins are a bit mushier feeling compared to kamui.
Soft would be my choice to go with, I liked it better than the softer ones :smile:
You can always buy both as they are so cheap and try out for yourself :rolleyes:

My experience was just the opposite. I couldn't wait to get the Kamui off end of my cue.
I play One Pocket, exclusively, and when running balls at the foot of the table (short shots) I felt like I couldn't hit the cue ball hard enough. And, banks were the same way. Very disconcerting. :)
 
Thats the thing about pool and these endless equipment threads, everyone feels things so differently that its really hard to come up with one brand or maker above others.
Many folks around here absolutely hate Kamui's, yet I seem to always to find my way back to them as they do the trick for me :) Yes, they are expensive as hell and tend to glaze every now and then. Still for some odd reason I like them :grin:
Tramp: I understand your point of view totally, especially the blacks have more "give" to them as other tips that I have used. Originals feel a bit more... well original with their playing characteristics closer to Mooris and other tips. I really need to get my hands on a Milkdud, so much praise about them that they just cant be too bad. It's hard to argue about things that are based on feel or taste. In pool and food, what is delicious to me may be terrible for your taste. Or what would say to rye bread and salted liquorice? I love 'em both, it's a finnish thing I suppose :grin:

With ultraskins the great thing is the price, you can buy 3 for the price of one kamui tip. Easy too see what you like then :wink:

Well, I don't know about salted licorice, but I do like rye bread. Especially when It's part of a Reuben samich.
Believe it, or not, I'm currently using a cut down (short) Le Pro. Before too much longer I'll install a new UltraSkin medium, and I'll be off to the races. Tom Hay makes a fine tip, that's for sure.
But, you're right. To each his own. It's what makes the pool world go round.

I'm not sure if the deal is still available, but a few months ago I got 10 UltraSkins for $25 -- you pick how many of each. I chose 3 ProSoft, 3 VerySoft, 2 Soft and 2 HardHitters (one for me and one for our designated house break cue at the community center).

Let's see, ...with Kamuis that would have cost me about $200+

Answer to your question, IMHO the VerySoft is closest to a SuperSoft.

I get licorice from a friend who was born in Kimmo's homeland.....
....it makes any licorice in North America look pretty bad.....I love it.
I also like rye bread....never tried it with licorice.

Speaking of Finland and tips! The reindeer of Lapland might be some of the toughest
critters in the world....the Samis could start a cottage industry.
I'd love to try a reindeer tip.

I am trying to figure out what you are trying to say? I have 6 different hardness available. Could I believe a Very Soft UltraSkin would have a mushier feel than a Hard Kamui? Sure, no prob. Do I think a SS Kamui would have a musier feel than a HH UltraSkin? Yep, sure would.

I think that different people want different feels, sounds and reactions. I or no other Tip Maker will please everyone.

What I do know is the UltraSkin is not a new Tip nor am I new to serviceing the industry. Out of that you will find very few people not happy with my product, service or after service.

I don't go shouting off roof tops if a Profesional Pool Player uses my tip as they could change to another tip in a day and as sad as it is to our industry the Top Pool Player in Tournament play is going to be lucky to make 30% of what the Last Guy holding a PGA Card makes.

When we can all unite with a great plan, that could change. At the present time I focus on the League players and the small $1,000.00 to $2,500.00 weekend tournaments.

I can be mushy to some, Hard to others, I just want to be a part of the game and that, will never change.

Just wanted to let everyone know I ended up with the Med Tip. I tried the soft and the pro also. Just liked the feel of the Med the best. It doesn't glaze over like the Kamui and it takes less effort to maintain the tip. Thanks Tom for making great tips for a great price. Michael

What I was trying to say is that if we compare Kamuis and Ultraskins, equal listed hardnesses (US M and kamui m) then the ultraskin feels a bit softer, with a little more give in it when struck. A grade harder Ultraskin (h) feels pretty close to a Kamui (m) hardness considered. I liked your hard tip the best, it had the nice snap that I look for in a tip :)
For my personal taste the Kamuis just suit me the best. I like everything about them, except the price tag of course :grin: Thankfully tips last for a while so I can afford whatever tip I want when it needs changing :o

Dont get me wrong, I like your tips a lot. I have them on my spare cues that my guests play with and I have a few still waiting to be installed. For the price they cant be beaten, thats for sure. You seem like really nice a guy to do business with too, so thumbs up to you :thumbup:
 
Could I ask about a hardness comparison to a Tiger Sniper tip? I love them dearly, but the prices are out of this world now. So why not support a good guy, I thought.
The Everests on the other end I do not like, they get far too hard over time.

And finally something I can get in Germany easily!
How it paines me that Fury NA cues are close to a rare metal here...
