Hi, does anyone have any comments on my tip - too flat, too round, too worn down etc.

Your thoughts would be very handy :)

OK, so now I have confirmation on the shape.

Onto the tip quality:

My tip is at least 12 years' old. During that time, however, it's hardly been used at all (cue has been in storage).
The tip is quite hard but still seems to hold chalk reasonably well. I've no idea what the brand is. I think its 12 mm.

1) Should I be considering a new tip?
2) If so, what is a good premium brand to buy?
3) What hardness ought I to consider? I'm looking for being able to put spin on the ball easily.
4) How does tip size/width affect your shots? Accuracy, English etc.
5) Best ferrule type - ivory, carbon fiber, plastic, phenolic resin, brass?
6) Rounder tip = more English on cue-ball?

Kamui black! Soft! (super soft if you want more spin but they hold shape not so well. and by not so well i mean super well for a super soft tip LOL! Those kamui tips are HARD!)

Im not 100% sure but i think the lightest ferrules are the best. Lighter ferrules = less deflection. Well actually the lighter the tip of your cue results in less deflection. Then again if youve been playing with ivory all your life you might not be used to using a wood ferrule so changing that ferrule to something drastically different might affect your conditioning on how squirt works on the table you play.
 
Your tip looks okay, but when you mentioned it has been on the cue for twelve years I think I might consider a change, if I were you. It's probably become very hard by now, and brittle. Don't be surprised if a chunk flies out while you're playing with it.
Layered (laminated) tips, because of their construction, are inherently stronger than single-layered tips which makes them superior in their resistance to deformation. What we generally call mushrooming. Their ability to outlast a sinle-layer tip is an added bonus.
Think of it this way. If two boards are the same size, but one is a single thickness of pine, and the other is the same thickness of multiple layers of pine (plywood); which board will be the strongest.
