Last event I played, I got third and didn't tip (didn't realize this was a thing). Got a text from the TD saying "don't forget to tip next time".

Looked up some old threads on here and it looks like tipping 5-10% is reasonable, does that sound right? And is that % of tournament winnings or total winnings including Calcutta?

For example, let's say I won $1500 for the tournament and the Calcutta paid out $2000, of which I got half. Would I tip 5-10% of $1500 or $2500?

Is it appropriate for a TD to text a player “dont forget to tip next time”?

Well when I use to play in small Bar 9 ball tournament, the TD was owner. If you won you go 60-75 dollars MAX, saw zero reason to tip TD.

In larger event where the TD gets pair to run tournament, when tip for doing their job. They agree to do it for a set amount of money, why Tip the TD. Makes zero sense. Did they do some more than their job? If so what was that?

The tournament director can kiss my @##. They already get a cut. If they don't they need to learn how to run a tournament. If I pay my entry fee and work like a dog to win a tournament the popcorn gallery deserves nothing.

If I know them, I might buy them a drink to celebrate but that's the end of my charity for TDs.

The word “TIPS” stands for “To Insure Prompt Service”. What service is being provided that would warrant this?

Never hear that but IMHO, if you a Service Worker, Prompt Service, Good Service, is your job description.

Should your Grocery Checker be Tipped for doing their Job?

Should your Nurse be Tipped for doing their Job?

Should your Barber who own his spot, chair, shop be Tipped for doing their Job?

Should your Coffee Jerk at the Coffee Joint be Tipped for doing their Job? Taking Order, Taking Money, and Pouring Cup of Joe?
