I apologize if this has been covered before… I'd like to buy a used Valley table (88") and am hoping for tips in determining the overall quality of a given table. Things I should look for? Common problems? Any help would be appreciated!
You'll want to check the slate for breaks or any hairline cracks.. It's still playable and serviceable with hairline cracks but just something to be aware of. you'll want to wipe the slate with damp rag to remove dirt, grime, chalk dust ect... When it's damp check for cracks or inperfections.
You can lightly lap the slate to remove all the tiny crud build up on top.
And always scrape the built up glue, especially on the top near the edge, if your using 3m-scotch weld neoprene 10 you'll have to scrape the vertical edges as well.... Be carefull scraping the old glue from slate, I had the room manager attempt to help scrape slates and had to stop him due to technique.. He was doing more bad then good.. The slates are soft and a blade can easily gouge... It's takes some experience with removing the glue.... The bottom side of slate can get build up glue that needs to be removed as well.. I'm not a fan of the floating slate design of valley tables..
And if the gap gets any greater than is... RUN!
All the other good pointers are around these neck of the woods.
