Tips on keeping score

A scratch directly off the rack on the opening break is only a 1-point foul assuming two object balls get to cushions. This is true even if the cue ball does not hit a cushion on the way to the pocket. That's due to the way "driven to a rail" is defined.

A breaking violation is not the first of three fouls.

Thanks, Bob! I was mistaken.

This is an oversight. The intention was not to change this rule. The cue ball must go to a cushion after contact with an object ball. You are not permitted to bank to the back of the rack and stick your opponent.

Thanks, Bob. It makes perfect sense that no change was intended to something that never was considered a problem.

Don't believe this was mentioned, but whether you are using beads or scoring wheels, a foul or scratch during a rack is deducted from the cumulative total, not from the rack score. This way the rack scoring stays correct.

Hope this helps.
