Tips on potting, contact point and aiming lines

Here is a video for anyone with problems potting balls. I explain a little of my thought process during my practice. I show how to find contact points, lines to pocket, cue aiming etc.

The audio isn't very good... (S's) didn't come out very clear. They are more of a SH sound.

If anyone would like a stroke, bridge hand, banking etc... video, let me know.

Hope you find it helpful.

If you're aiming the center of the "cue ball's" stripe at the center of the object ball's stripe, then aligning the "cue ball" stripes toward the target pocket is an error. They should instead be aligned parallel with the "object ball" stripe (in this case, straight toward the rail).

Look up the "parallel aiming" method to see what I mean.

It works good. I don't know if you noticed, but the ball went middle pocket. I can aim accurate enough to hit the horn or do combo's. I will post a few examples. I thought the video was longer, didn't know the battery died. Some angles do require parallel lines or a different CB contact point (very thin hits), but for the most part... this will get the OB to the hole.

It works good.

You're making balls, but your system isn't doing it. Maybe you should try it the real way to see if it doesn't work even better. I think it's a pretty good way to practice visualizing contact points if done right, but if you do it wrong you're handicapping yourself. It's a simple change.

Problem with running lines not aiming at the pocket is, you are visualizing. I know where the pocket is. No guessing on lines here. Once you do this, you see the balls that will and won't go. There must be 100 ways to aim on here, this is just one on video that I hope will help someone needing it. I use this to help me find the full, 3/4, 1/2, 1/4 ball etc hits. I pointed this out in the first video.

That's right, there's no guessing with your method - you know with certainty that the CB stripe is aligned wrong every time. The guesswork is that it's wrong by a different amount each time, from a few degrees to 45 degrees or more.

If you try to align them parallel, you'll be off by a few degrees some of the time (but often not enough to matter) and you'll be right on target the rest of the time.

To each his own, but I know which guessing I'd choose to do, and which I'd advise others to choose.

if you line up the circles on the stripes having both centered at the pocket, how do you not undercut the OB if you the front circle of the CB with the back circe of the OB?

If you set up like this for an 80 degree cut from down near the end rail the shot would miss by 30+ degrees.

This method is a bit of a guide, ball park method. If you really tried to line up this way you miss just about any shot over 10 degrees that has to travel more than a couple of feet.

Much better to do the same thing setting the CB up parallel to the OB-Pocket line imho.

Still, interesting concept of placing the balls and positioning the spots.

he's right.

What you're trying to do in these videos is with good intention, but as someone told me in something I was trying to explain one time, "Your delivery method is flawed."

Sir pj is right, sir. This is 'visually' one way to look at shots involving contact points, but not technically correct. Set up a ghost ball with the stripes lined up, then move the CB to your point of aim without altering the stripe's angle.

The drill is to learn aiming and contact points. This drill does help. Don't line up thin cuts (not in the drill)... Don't line up full length table shots (not in the drill). Practicing these hard shots (thin or full table) is a complete waist of time when you don't know how to pot. If you start this easy drill and make them middle pocket, left or right pocket (like the drill), then you start with longer shots, thin hits etc (start visualizing, imagining, picturing). I tried to take the visualize, imagine, picture, out of the picture. Setup these shots and see how many miss the pocket.

I will do more video later of systems that work for more shots. Rather than trying to post about systems, I though some video would be better, again, trying to take the visualizing out.

I will post the balls that this system doesn't work on a little later and the required adjustments'

Good points by you guys though, just a little more advanced than what I was aiming for.
