if theyre heavy id say ipe , if light and reddishorange with strong aroma pauduk.

ive seen a catalog that lists the woods they used and snake wood was on the list, BOY id like to see what they did with that?
They are 16 and 17 oz - too orange for padauk (I have an unfinished chunk of padauk). They do have a strong smell, but not like the padauk.

Maybe that's what these are - someone else suggested they might be cherry.

I'm pretty sure it's jatoba. It looks a lot like mahogany and it was commonly used for cues. The grain is more likely to ID the wood than the color, which can vary a lot.

Here is a web site I use to help ID wood - not perfect but it shows a lot of variations and true colors - in the jatoba species you will find woods that look exactly like these cues.

Cool web-site - yes, the grain is like mahogany;in fact, my cuesmith thought that might be what it was.

Here's another wood site that someone on the board sent me to: http://www.woodfinder.com/woods/woodindex.php

I'll know more about those two in a while - about to begin refinishing the wrapless one. Someone refinished it recently to look like a piece of furniture

hey chris the 2 unfinnished ones you have, can you tell the wood?

ive got one that looks like guatemullin rosewood and ones ipe.

Now that you mention it, I have a couple of Palmers with the imported forearm that I now would ID as ipe. It also looks like mahogany but with a distinctive orange color.

These unturned Titlists have what I believe is rosewood of some kind - it has a walnut color with some stripes and some rays, not quite as dark or as pretty as Brazilian - maybe it is from Guatemala.

Chris - I just added a link to your "Titlist Story" page. I put it on the "Hoppe" page. Also, just added a page on the "Model 26 1/2", including pictures of 6 examples - go to this page and left-click on picture at left: http://oldsplice.homestead.com/OldCues.html

Looks good. I have a 26 1/2 wedge cue, very early rosewood and Titlist color veneers and a perfect decal. I will photo the cue alongside a Titlist and send you pics. It will be within the next week or two. I also have a WWII Hoppe Professional with the fiber joint collar and will try to find it to photograph and send.
