Titlist wood ID

Any idea what type of wood this is? Was traded as an ebony wood several months ago and just had it sit around for a while. It's stamped 22 oz. I don't know so much about woods and would like some opinions. Under a flashlight, it has brown and black alternating waves. Maybe zebrawood or macasscar ebony? What do you guys think?

From the photo's and the cues weight I would have to agree that the cue is certainly Ebony. If it has Brown stripes or area's in it is called either striped Ebony or Macasar Ebony, if it is completely Black it is called Gaboon Ebony.

Oh and by the way, that cue is an early cue. It was certainly made in the 40's according to the Brunswick lable used and by the Ivory ring at the bottom. Ebony is the most sought after wood used in Titlist cues, I have done a few conversion cues myself and I have sold a number of Titlist cues. The cue in you photo currently cost at least $500+ just because of the wood alone, if sold as a collector cue and it is straight you could get more.

Have a good night

This one is Gaboon Ebony. Brown streaks are fairly common, they usually disappear
after finishing.

A 2 second search for 'gaboon ebony' Images returned 20,600 results(pictures).
