TNT Tip Review
I've been looking for a low cost tip with Moori like construction and playability. I believe that I will find the TNT to be that tip. While I still prefer the Ultraskin Medium for my player, I still have some testing to go with the TNT. I have tried about 6 - 8 "candidates' for a economical Moori "alternative", and after just 2 days of play, the TNT shows to be the leader by leaps and bounds. Of the other "candidates", three I removed after just one session of play. The others I removed within 7 days. While I find the Ultraskin to be an excellent tip, I find it necessary to scuff it more frequently so that it accepts chalk. I did not have any chalk adhesion issues with the TNT. I scuffed it once when I started, and it performed well all night. The Ultraskin, when it's scuffed and holding chalk well is a great tip for applying English with minimal effort. It took me a few games to realize that I needed about 5 - 10 % more stroke effort with the TNT to get the same response, but I consider that a minor adjustment. (I'm sure part of the reason for the added effort was due to the cue that I am using to test the tip; it is NOT my regular player.) Once my testing is complete, and if all goes well, I plan to add the TNT to the list of tips that I will keep on hand for my customers.
Installation was no problem for the most part, but I found that my radius cutter works better with the Ultraskin than it did with the TNT. I had a harder time forming the crown on the TNT as it neared the apex it tended to lose the top layer. I had the same problem with 2 others that I installed for my customers to try out. But I adapted to this matter by just using the radius cutter to begin forming the crown, and finished the job with my curved shaper.
On a scale of 1 to 10, I give the TNT at least an 8 for now, but when testing is complete, I expect it to go higher.
