To Be Or Not To Be A Killer B??? That Is The Question.

The Killer Bs

What happened to them, and why doesn't anyone pick up the pieces?

Good day everyone, I have always wondered why the Killer Bs stopped. If my memory serves me, Mario had a second child, and decided to spend more time with his family (the right thing to do I might add). But leading up to that, were they starting to drop off (not enough players for events), or were there other problems? If there weren't any other problems why wouldn't anyone pick up where Mario left off?

I know that Chris Leal, Marc Diane (AKA Curly), Gary (Bay State tournament), and Steve at Country Club has some type of open style tournaments. But no one ever started to do a Killer B style event. The way I see it, forever Open player there is thousands of A players. And for every A player, there are tens of thousands of B players. Not to mention all the C and D players out there. So with that, there is a huge market for the Killer B type players. So why hasn't anyone hoped on and started where Mario left off, a great stepping stone level for mid level players?

Or am I just not looking at this the right way. I figure there is a set market for it, with an established clientele already. Wouldn't this work?

Hi Every one,

This is sort of a bump. But I want to know, aren't there Killer Bs on the forum here? I just figured there was. And was wondering if any of them still want to compete in tournaments where they are competing at there level and maybe a little above. Not just going in to find that they are facing off with Tony Roberto (spelling sorry), Joe Tucker, Tom MaGonnagle, and other open type players.

Just would like feed back...

Pete,

I wonder if I know you. You obviously play in MA, or know the people that do. Anyway, these days I suppose I am a decent B player. Probably not the caliber of the players that used to play as "Killer B's", but I would be very interested in this type of tournament. My game has improved lately and I feel ready to start to crack into the A player range. This would be the perfect thing for me. Marc Dionne's tour is the closest thing. It is the New England 9 ball Tour. The problem for people like me is having to play the likes of players like Tony Ruberto, Dave Fernandez, Gary Abood, Karen Corr, etc. These players are over my head, and it would take a great day to beat one of them.

Lets hope something like this turns up. Marc could easily put something like this together. He certainly has the player base at this point to pull it off.

Have to tell ya, I have absolutely no idea what you're talking about.

No problem,

In MA area there was a tour called the Killer Bs. It was for players low A and under. The TD Mario would graduate the players who had gotten good enough to cash in on the Joss tour. You can go to the old site (if it's still there) Totalpool.info. The tour was great, it was like $40 entry fee, and there were no ringers period.

It was a great stepping stone for players.

Hi Kerry,

We might know each other. I've been playing 5 years now. I play in a few places, Country CLub (Wednesday night league for the summer), I play in Peabody, Country Cue mostly and World Class Billiards, I play At the Wave AKA the Corner Pocket (I'm in the singles league) and I hit up Silver Cue once in a while as well. Oh, and I was at GoodTimes for a couple of years on Alex Watkinsons team (The Scottish player), and I play (rack) with Jake the Armenian and Rick Rug...

Just dropping some names to help you identify me if they help.

Pete,

I know Jake, and I'm pretty sure I know Rick (they used to play at Breakers a lot). I'm a little younger (33). I play at the Silver Cue mostly now. The tables there play pretty good. I play exclusively on the "tight" table, a triple shimmed GC 3 with about 4.25" corner pockets.
I spoke to Mark about the tour idea, and within 30 minutes he had something layed out. I would give him a call at the Silver Cue, because I think he will be doing some mailers. I know plenty of players that would love a series like this. Hopefully he can make it happen.

Thanks,

Kerry
