I just read your article about the events that unfolded at the last ring game.
Let me start by saying thank you for all your efforts in our sport. Now about your article.

No one should be offended about having to put up a deposit. If they are, they don't have to play. You must do what is required to protect the game and your reputation, or no one will drive 10 minutes to watch a 2 person ring game.
Next thing is, George Breedlove is a class act and has enormous talent. It is a shame he is not a full time pro. But this game only supports those at the very top. Maybe someday that will change thanks to a few loyal people.

My suggestion for the non-refundable deposit. Either add it to the pot or split it among the original entrants to help cover their travel and hotel costs.
Thanks again for all the efforts. Sam

I will gladly second that, Sam. Professor Gilmer is right at the top of my list when it comes to class. No one on earth would I trust any more than the Professor.

The Professor has instilled this class and trust in his children too. The Professor's son, Lil Sam, was matched up in an ahead set with Jeff Beckly. It took a long time, back and forth but Lil Sam gets 7 ahead and Jeff starts to pay Lil Sam. Lil Sam tells Jeff, "I don't know what you were playing to but I was going to 8, not 7". Now, how many of us would have taken the money and flipped the coin? Jeff, obviously, appreciated the honesty and racked the balls. Just for the record, Lil Sam did eventually win the set but it took much longer.

My hat is off to you and your entire family Professor.

The Professor has a new URL for his Southern Billiards site. It is, http://b29.ezboard.com/bmississippibilliards

Tony, I'm just getting tired of seeing our sport take a back seat to stuff like scrabble, cheerleading, lumberjacks, worlds strongest man, the elementary school spelling bee, and a long list of other programs that don't even qualify as a sport. No offence is intended to any one involved in any activity listed or presented on any of the sporting channels.
I am thinking of changing professions in the near future. But I have so much time invested in my business I would hate to just quit.
There are a lot of people who deserve our thanks for trying to expand our sport and I just decided I would try to get the ball rolling. A lot of players don't understand the work and expense to just put on a weekend tournament. And the headaches of dealing with whiners who show up just to complain. Sam

Well said satman!
If some people would spend more time sporting things like the Professor’s ring game. And less time complaining on message boards when things don’t come off as planed Pool would be in a better state. Carlton

Sam,
well said again. i agree with you, this is a great sport and we should do all that we can to push it up there where it belongs.

Sam, while I honestly don't think there will be any deposits available due to no-shows (I think this will cure that problem), I agree and plan to do as you suggest with the bulk of it, if there is any. I also thought I might give a small portion, $50 or so, from each no-show deposit if there are any, to the spectators. I don't know how exactly. Maybe in the form for a random drawing or simply order pizza for the house.

Sam, thanks for the kind words, and I hope you will continue to check our discussion board and contribute to it if you would. You would be considered an asset.
