After you clean and sand; what product works best to seal the shaft before wax is applied? What is the drying time? Thanks Bo

I use a thinned toluene based lacquer. Drying time while spinning on the lathe, 30 sec.

super thinned pale shellac...try Behlen's Woodturner's Finish thinned about 50-60% with lacquer thinner.

What does the majority of cuemakers use to seal shafts?

> Most cuemakers and repairmen use any of several brands/types of sanding sealer. Some use what is known as French polish, which is a shellac type finish used more often on high-end acoustic guitars and violins. What I use is a friction-drying sanding sealer called Turner's Magic CN-11 Sealer. It dries to the touch by the time I get from one end of the shaft to the other, and once I apply 2 coats, not much dirt makes it to the wood, and it really slicks up nice. Mohawk Industries makes a wood floor/furniture sealer called Rapid Pad that I'm sure is very popular among cuemakers. Hope this helps,Tommy D.

I have been using the shaft sealer that Chris Hightower sells. Been using it for 5 years and happy with the way it works.
