I am planning on going to the Glass City Open this weekend in toledo, I dont really care about spending to much time at the tournament itself i was wandering if anyone knew if there were in good poolrooms around the area to go to where some action is, (similar to how if you attend the US open you ll have more fun at cuemasters watching action) Thanks

My mistake,I thought that u were looking for action.one of the well known rooms is Glass city Billiards. There is another good one and I do not remeber the name.At the tournament site u can check for the directions.I am not sure that it is anything like Q Masters during US Open.

Vagabond,
"DUNKIN" (who's first name is Steve also) does not play anymore, hasen't for about 3 years now last time he played was in the 03' GCO. Where he took I believe 7th having a good run in the losers bracket knocking out I believe Archer and "KING" James.

Or1pkt,
There are two poolrooms close to the hotel, Depending on what kind of action you are looking for is where you might want to go. Glass City Billiards is a higher stakes pool room but i bit on the shady side. Davey K's Joint is lower stakes, but cleaner, not shady at all, full service bar and nice staff.

If you need any help when you are in town pm me i'll give you my cell.

Steve McAninch is playing at the GCO, and has played in it for at least the past four. He also was at the Derby this year. He does not travel much anymore, but always plays locally. He has a very nice pool room, unfortunately it is a bit far from were the tournament is held. He may have some action there this weekend. If anyone is interested on were his room is pm me and I can let you know.

I heard it from a good source that Jerry Slivka is going to be at the Glass City Open this year. He's never been afraid to step up to the plate; action-wise, that is. One thing for sure, the Glass City Open attracts a wide variety of player types: Hall of Famers, veterans, roadsters, aspiring players, local champions, Canadian surprises, and unknown entities. :p

The ballroom will have tournament matches going on until late in the evening. However, in the past years, they did leave it open just about all night, maybe shutting it down an hour or two for cleaning purposes for the next day. :)

Some players do elect to leave if they find a game of stakes that piques their interest, so that they can be assured the duration of the match-up. There is a pool room within a 15-minute drive of the Clarion Hotel, as I recall. ;)

The funniest proposition last year was when a local said he'd bet anybody they couldn't run three balls in a row on the front table in the lobby, but the only stipulation was that they had to use his cue stick to do so. Watching the players attempt to do it was hilarious, the facial expressions of it all, especially the looks of disbelief when the ball wouldn't drop in the hole. The stick, of course, was a gaff cue. If I only had a video camera....:D

The biggest beat of the event was Fabio Petroni taking down the colorful Dennis Hatch after a heated bark-fest during the wee hours of the morning. The Hatchetman did most of the talking, while Fabio listened intently, waiting, and hoping to hear what he wanted. After 20 minutes of non-stop grandstanding, a local railbird couldn't stand it anymore. He rose from the bleachers and said, "I'll back Fabio for whatever he wants." The game ensued, with the Italian fox catching his prey.

Poolbiz420, sorry I thought you were talking about Steve McAninch not Steve Berry.

You are correct he does not play, he did make an apperance last year I think on Friday night. Maybe we will be lucky this year and get to seem him. :D
