from Cue Times, April 2011:

Greenfield's Sports Bar will host an exhibitors show from 11 to 4 next
Sunday, April 17, to benefit Tom Ross, a Denver instructor and pool promoter. Tom suffered a stroke a few months ago. For those who don't know him, Tom is one of the good guys. He's put his life into pool, and has some medical costs to pay off.

Contests will include speed breaking, best of 10 spot shots and others for cash and pool-related prizes. Donations include a set of Aramith balls, a deluxe break rack by Charlie Bond, a Terry McFadden coca bola cue, and a $300 gift certificate toward a Chris Byrne cue.

Other items shown will include Cues, cases, balls, racks, jump cues, books, magazines, posters, DVDs, and more.

see CueTimes.com page 5 for further info.

Thanks for posting this info. I hope people in the area will attend to show support for Tom. Tom will be there selling the Video Encyclopedia of Pool Shots (VEPS) DVD series (with all proceeds going to Tom).

I plan to stop by for part of the show (maybe 12n-2pm). If anybody on AZB plans to stop by, please be sure to say hi to me and Tom.

Regards,
Dave

Good to know that Tom will be there. I've got a story for him.

Is it a story you are willing to share with us also?

Thanks,
Dave

Sure. In fact, I wrote a thread about it a while back. I suffered a brain bleed a decade ago that put me first in the emergency room, then three weeks in intensive care, another four in a hospital room and then 10 weeeks in a rehab hospital.

I came out of it determined to play pool and ride my bike again, contrary to what I'd been told to expect. To top it off, I caught an 8-pound brown on the South Platte River, a place I was told was too dangerous for me to go (see the picture in my avatar).

Today, my pool game is every bit as crappy as it ever was. I still ride, fish, drive a truck and do as I please, contrary to what I'd been told to expect.
So I don't know what his docs are saying to Tom, but they might be safely ignored. That's my story.

See you at Greenfield's

That's a great story, and I'm sure Tom will appreciate it.

Thanks,

I will have to miss this event as I have been sent up to Spokane for a week to talk snow fighting stratigies with the best in the country:rolleyes:.
I wish Tom the best and hope everyone has a great time supporting him.

... hope to meet and greet some of you Sunday.
Ditto. We should make an effort to get all of the AZB'ers together. Should we try to get together for lunch or a drink, say at 1pm?

See you on Sunday,
Dave

Someone have an update on Tom?
He drove up to Fort Collins to visit me about a week ago. I was very happy when he agreed to hit some balls with me on my table.

Speech, reading, and writing are still challenges for him, but he is still showing improvement over time. He also has trouble remembering some words and names (he even forgets my name); although, his memory seems fine otherwise. Here are some other positives:
  • he understands speech well and communicates fine with some help
  • he drove from Denver to Fort Collins
  • he still has his full mental faculties and personality
  • he is playing pool again (albeit not anywhere close to his previous skill
level). I was very impressed with his shot making. The tough part is speed control. His technique looks no different than it used to look ... really good. And he still has that full "warehouse" of pool knowledge that he always had.
Regards,
Dave

Sounds like pretty good news considering. Thanks for the update guys.
