Sorry all, but I'm cashing in my chit on this great day. If any of you all that watch Major Golf?....Tom Watson.......pools equal is maybe Jersey Red? or johnny Irish? or Ervolino just finished a pure 2nd in the "OPEN" Championship in Scottland.

Tom is 59 years old and finished 2nd during a playoff after beating all but "1" world champ at the toughest test of Golf....that included Tiger, Sergio, Ernie Els, and all the other KILLERS!

I was glued to the TV since Thursday watching Mr. Watson grace his way around one of the toughest tracks in Scottland!


Anyway...there are few moments that grab my attention.....this was one of them!

First of all what Watson did was truely spectacular, it really is sad that he didn't win the tournament as I too waas really pulling for him.

Secondly the golf season never ends, they pretty much play the whole year.

He was in the lead when I left the house this morning, up by one stroke.

I was really hoping he would pull it off.

It would have been a great accomplishment, but second ain't bad at all.

but i dont feel sorry for him. after all, he came in 2nd and he just made $730,000!!! i'd take 2nd place all the time and be quite happy.

While $730,000 is a nice payday, I'm sure Tom would have gladly taken the Championship and $0 over it. I swear sometimes on this site it seems MOST don't have a competitive bone in their bodies. Show me the MONEY!!! Tom has a pretty comfortable life as it is, and an extra 3/4 mil is never a bad thing, but c'mon, winning the Open Championship at 59 would LONG outlast any monetary reward.

Where's everyone's will to win? I bet Dan Marino woulda gave up a years pay (and then some) for a Super Bowl win. Or the poker players that'd give up 2nd place money for the bracelet. Think Andy Roddick would rather have 2nd place money or have won Wimbledon with no money involved?

Look, I understand that the money in other sports is astronomically high, and players make more than comfortable livings by being just above mediocre by their pro sports standards, but I'd say MOST in other sports wanna win the BIG GAME, and not just be happy collecting HUGE 2nd place money everytime.

lol, $730,000 means as much to Tom Watson as $730 means to me. Sure it's a nice sum but it's not gonna change his lifestyle one bit. He gets paid more than 4 times that by just Polo every year.
 
I don't watch golf, but I watched the last round and the playoff yesterday. I couldn't help but root for the guy.

It was painfull to watch him choke the winning putt. I don't know anything about golf, but it reminded me of a choke stroke in pool, he tightened up with no follow through.

I've done it with a lot less riding on it. He was about to make history.

Congratulations to Tom for making the game exciting enough that non-golfers were glued.
