I watch the one pocket match the last two days between Tony and Josh Filler. I was struck by the simplicity of Tony’s stroke, which I’ve never really noticed closely before.
More than any pro player I can think of, there is absolutely no movement of his arm above the elbow, even on his follow through. It is a true pendulum stroke with everything remaining absolutely still throughout the entire stroke except for his forearm and hand.
I’m sure some would say that he can get away with this stroke playing one pocket or maybe 14.1 - games where power strokes are not needed that often. Tony seemed to have no trouble remaining accurate on shots that did require a more powerful stroke.
