I was just kicking around the top cue makers in my mind. Just for the sake of being bored at the momant. If you just bought cues from the ones that start with the letter S youd cover, the majority of them, in no order

szamboti
searing
southwests
schick
stroud
showman

should I start collecting the letter S. my other top 10 were,

Bender
Gina
 
You could do well with "BS" cues too.

What is your criteria for your choices? To be honest, there are many good cue makers who have no reached or may never reach that strange and mysterious stature some are assigned. I have played with so many cues that played like crap by top cue makers I can't number them. For example, I had a Szamboti that was beautiful and when someone found out it was for sale they were instantly interested,,,, That is till they played with it. It was actually a handicap to play with the cue. Had a Gina that was the same thing. You could not make a ball with it, it played like a tuning fork. Mean time, I have picked up production cues that played like an extension of your will. The cue seemed to play on auto pilot. You just never know.
 
I really think SCRUGGS should be on that list. ;-) The man doesn't get named cuemaker of the year for nothing LOL.
 
Are the Southwest cues going to continue to be as desireable as they have been in the past, since they have uped the price on them I mean. I can see spending $1500 when you can get $2500 but with the economy the way it is will people spend $2500 + and try to get $3500.

I agree Scruggs should be on the list. I have shot with a cue of his and it was a sound hitter and I was impresseed. My critia was just well known and respected makers. I have had both Szamboti,s Gus and Barry built by them for me. I had the gus for 12-14 years, and the Barry for a year. They were both perfection. Of the other S cues I currently have a Southwest and a Searing is promised May 1, hopefully this time, but I have never hit with one of Dennis cues so ill hold my verdict. The Schick I had built hit well. Of the people mentioned I doubt a ill worked cue leaves the shop, now if it executes or hits as one likes that is another story. I lost most of the cues or should say sold most of the cues mentioned trying to hang on to an X wife. In retrospect I should of kept the cues. As to Southwest being desireable they still have a back log. I personnally think they have reached the top of there price range but I think they will hold thier value. Dennis Searings cues will continue to hold if not raise in value, and I believe every name on the list I started with will hold value. I am not saying there are not a bunch of other cue makers out there that dont make cues as well as these gentleman but these guys have climbed the mountain and will remain there.
 
Start with S

If your talking about "hit", who's the guy with the special patent on his joint? Is it "Shurtz"? I heard his cues hit great. I also believe he was a pioneer in his field.

I've hit with something that sounds along those lines. Shurtz or Shultz or something. Amazing hit, I just didn't like the balance on that particular cue. If they all hit like that one though, I have major respect for him.
