hennessee's age

I don't know. He was young. I don't even know if he was driving or not. I'm guessing on the year. I played pretty heavy from 1990 until about 1996. I'm just gonna take a guess and say that he was 17-19.

Dude I'm a B player at best. More like a C on those Diamonds at the DCC. I agree with 5ballCharlie's list.

i had no idea henny was 30-ish. i thought he was like 24 or 25.

He's closer to 25 than 30. my top 5:
Jon
Billy Young
Pickle
Nick V
Robby Langford

Honorable mention:
Hickerson
Billy Bailey

Before Billy McMahan quit playing pool for cards he was arguably top 5. People from Tn probably remember Billy Mac.

Nick hickerson came in 2nd place. Someone out of nashville won I think. I dont know his name though. Pickle finished I believe in the top 16. I played some guy some 9 ball and did well.

The guy that won is the guy I pm'ed you to buy in the calcutta.

Someone tells me that Hennessee is 27. So we must have played later than I thought.

No crap wish I would have took that advice. I heard that luckman was there but did not see him.. Art Shannon told me that he beat someone out of a nice chunk of change...

i agree with charlies list...

randy vaughn passed thru my part of indiana a couple of years ago with another guy from tullahoma(sp?)...preach or preacher...something like that..he shot very well also.

randy shoots lights out...broke and ran a set to 7 on our diamond table. i think he could give hennesee all he wanted...

You're damn right he could AND STILL CAN. It would never happen though. Randy doesn't gamble anymore. I'm not sure of the Preacher dude, I'll talk to Randy and find out.

Top 5

Top 5 players in no particular order are:

John Hennessee age 28
Billy Young age 26
Nick Hickerson age 20 or 21
Bobby Pickle age not sure
Randy Vaughn age not sure

The preacher guy you are talking about is more than likely Tony Campbell (aka snake)

watched Nick Vita play last night at a local cue makers spot here in OK. He wasn't playing very well. Although, I had seen him play a few nights before and I was impressed with his one pocket game. But considering where he's at, Oklahoma, everyone plays one pocket and most play better than he does.

KTown,

I agree, except I think I would swap Nick and Billy Bailey. I think Billy beats him gambling,

I met Billy Mac when he used to come to Chattanooga aroune 8 or 10 years ago. He played alot of cards then, too, but also played alot of pool. He wasn't afraid to bet it up, and I saw him outrun some huge spots that he gave up. I wondered what Billy was up to these days. Back then, he always had a little drama going on with gambling and wild women.

Speaking of pickle and hennessee, does anyone remember when hennesse kept mouthing pickle and bobby told him to knock it off. Hennessee kept at it and bobby just walked over and smaked him!!! Hahaha priceless.

Pretty sure that was Sparky F

I ran into a guy at a local (Knoxville TN) pool room; gave me just his first name (probably fake). Said he hadn’t missed in months! I’m thinking BS. I didn’t want to gamble, so we played for fun. He dicked around the first few racks; playing one handed trying to get me to bet. I won 3 racks in a row, then he got serious. I was his rack bitch for the next 6 racks. I didn’t get a single shot! Not only did he not miss a shot, he didn’t even miss shape. I’ve been playing for about 60 years and had seen this just once before. Reminded me of Justin Bergman running 18 racks recently. The kid said he lived in Monroe county Tennessee. I’d love to run into him again.

Randy played strong yes but he could never give Johnathan anything, come Hal! I go to church with Randy, he hasn't picked a stick up in years, he actually lost one leg due to diabetes. Randy does have a prostatic leg now so you really wouldn't know it, but either way he could never give Johnathan anything on any table. But Rady played JAM UP to say the least

I got trapped by a guy that said he used to run a pool hall in Pulaski area (I think). Short, stocky Light-skinned black guy goes by the name of Phillip. He was in the place selling cues, I think. He asked me to play some cheap. I wasn't feeling it, but then he asked what it would take to get me to play.

" Race to 5, I get the breaks and 7 out." I told him.

I was hitting them pretty good, and had a golden break, a wired 2-7 combo, and ran a rack. I'm up 3-0 and he hasn't even gotten to the table.

He comes over and says he knows I hustled him with the spot and that we should be playing even. He asked to adjust the spot. I told him not in the middle of the set, but that if I won I would give him a chance to win his money back.

Then he set the hook.

He says "well, if you won't do right by me and adjust the spot, at least let's make it 5 ahead instead of race to 5".

I agreed as long as I got to count the 3 games I had already won.

"Ok," he shrugged, "but let's at least double the bet...at least give me some extra motivation to climb out of this deep hole you got me in."
I'm feeling pretty good about things, so I agreed.

I made a ball on the next break, but left myself hooked. I pushed out to a jump shot.

He basically sprinted to the table, sank the jump shot, and got perfect on the 2 ball.

I know he didn't run out the next 8 racks, but he was damn close. I got a couple shots where I was so thoroughly hooked that it was basically a guaranteed BIH.

I sat and watched for about an hour. After he got to the hill, up 4 racks, he told me, "Never agree to play an ahead set unless you know exactly how good the guy you're playing is."

He continued, "You are good enough that with a little luck and a few rolls, there is a chance you could win a race to 5, but there is very little chance you could ever get 5 ahead of me."

Pretty cheap lesson all in all, and Phillip was a pretty cool dude and stayed around and showed me some shots and drills.

I never knew his last name, but I asked Billy Young once if he knew him, and he said that they played even on a bar box, and that he once saw Phillip take Matlock to the wire in a big cash game back in the day.

Great story and a valuable lesson in there too.

Hennessee #1
I'm new to TN, but the names I hear the most behind him are Eric Roberts and Josh O'Neal.
I may not have heard the other big names because I am too far west.
There is decent action in my area if you're in the 500-600 fargo range.
It's not so easy if you're over that. Half of the good players here need a backer to get in a decent game.
