A. Straight in. Every time.

I dunno . . . . what DO you know????drivermaker said:I think for myself, on other types of shots that might be close to the rail, I might prefer a slight cut to straight in because I can use some spin to hold it closer to the rail and spin it into the pocket in case I don't stroke straight due to puckering asshole syndrome, especially if the CB and OB are closer together. But...what the hell do I know.

Thanks for bring the rain back with you . . . .![]()
Boro Nut said:For my part I think it's obvious that a straight shot is the easiest, not only from personal experience, but by simple logic. The sweet spot is largest when it's staring you in the face straight on. A few degrees off centre the reduction is not significant and you may not notice the difference, but by the time the cut approaches 90° your margin of error is disappearing to zero. So statistically, any cut is always harder than a straight shot.
Enough data for a pie chart I think
Most Difficult Shot
Straight Steak & Kidney Pie - SJM, JLW, ScottR, NoSho, Opie, BlowF - 43%
Cut Apple Pie - LA, CH65, RodD, VAP, QN, BN - 43%
Don't like Pie - DM, PL - 14%

I doubt that is Lora Ann's actual pic..For all I know it could be a guy behind that handle!!!
Rodd said:I have no idea why people need an aming system, you either see the angle or you don't. I suppose some need a blanket (thinking of Linus in Peanuts) since there method (whatever that was) didn't work.
If you don't hit where you aim, C/B and O/B -- well I'll let you all fill in the blanks.
Be that as it may, I'll take the straight in any day, even if whitey is on the rail. There is a little trick to making those rail shots easier. I'd imagine the vote on this will be fairly close.

Opie said:I agree with you Rod, I think aiming systems are only useful for very inexperienced beginners.
Opie said:I agree with you Rod, I think aiming systems are only useful for very inexperienced beginners. I think that once you get to a certain point, you just look at the shot and automatically know where to hit it to make it. That's why I think products such as "The Spider" might be useful for a beginner for about 2 weeks before you didn't need it anymore.
Opie said:Well, I mean you just "see" the angle or you don't. I think when people miss alot of shots it's not because they aimed it up wrong, I think it's becuase they stroked it wrong.
drivermaker said:Go over to the forum on www.billiardsdigest.com and read the thread about aiming. There's a lot of back and forth on the subject and maybe you'll learn something. But then again....maybe not. And if not...stay a hack.
TATE said:The question isn't presented properly because.......
Opie said:I love it when someone judges how well someone can play over an internet forum.
Just as we both have varying opinions on this subject, and since neither one of us played at the WPC, we're probably both hacks.
drivermaker said:Sometimes it's quite easy to judge how well someone plays or doesn't play by their comments. Based on your original comment about aiming, I'll stand by my assessment.
When I was coming up there was no such thing as the WPC. If that's the criteria for determining hackdom, then I'm a hack.
On the other hand, I had to shoot some pretty sporty pool to feed myself, pay some bills, and keep a roof over my head for a period of time. You ever have to do that or have an inclination to give it a try based on the strength of your game?
drivermaker said:That back and forth action is more automatic to me than the alignment and seeing the shot properly. It's the eyes that play tricks more than the function of the arm.

Opie said:I didn't want to get into an argument when I first posted on this thread. I just stated my opinion. I enjoy this forum quite a bit but the only thing that gets me is when someone starts an argument. You can disagree with someone without being a dick about it. Your right, your probably a better player than me. But it's pointless to argue about it, 'cause in all likelihood we'll never meet each other, let alone play pool together. And with the attitude you give on here sometimes, I wouldn't want to play you anyway.
