Tournament experience

The lack of playing pool at a pool tournament really turned me off to organized play.

I'd rather hook up with a friend and play for table time or peyote or galactic championships, even for fun, than be at the pool room for 2 days with 8 hrs of pool in it.

Having a table at home has made me a @BasementDweller
I'm still familiarizing myself with the ins and outs of tournament play. I do enjoy, but it has lots of negative aspects. The same way that I have learned $$$ play does. Nothing beats a good session with friends. But you can ride the high of tournament play for a lot longer. $$$ play is also great, and a very different feeling when you're up.
Let me know when the next galactic championships are, and we can duel for a few tabs of acid on the space table :ROFLMAO:

A month or two ago my buddy and I were playing in a scotch doubles tournament and got sent to the losers side in our first match

He simply looked at me and said good, now we're in the "stay in stroke side".

10 hours later we finished double dipping the kings of the hill to take it.

There's something to be said for it...
Good on you, and I have to agree with the sentiment. I have been in that situation before (not that I've won anything here). My best tournament started from the losers bracket. Played my best, had the most wins, and was in-stroke even when I lost.

From a room owner’s / manager’s viewpoint, for most pool rooms, once the first 2-3 rounds of a double elimination tournament are completed, tables need to be made available for regular customers renting tables, so often there are not tables available for tournament players to practice on between matches.
This is certainly the case here. The only times you will find a hall quiet, are in the first hour of opening. Otherwise, there is always someone wanting a table, and naturally as the owner of a hall there is the need to make space and encourage repeat custom. Just wish there was a way to keep the pace moving in a smaller tournament like this. This particular tournament doesn't have the manpower to implement a shot clock. It would mostly be relying on the players to keep on top of it, and would probably just cause problems.

I forfeit!

but this is one of the first times where I've had an average day on the table, and still enjoyed myself. Anyone else ever had a day to forget, but actually enjoyed it?
What can be better than playing the game that you love all day with others that feel the same way about it?

Tournaments rarely allow a player to play, play, play. While you will have matches back-to-back, you will also have long gaps between races. It's an opportunity to talk to people with a common interest - talk to them as deep or as shallow as you like or feel at the time.

One of you will win, everyone else will lose. But the primary purpose of a pool tournament, from one played at a local bar to the World Pool Championship, is to bring people together. Churn it over in your head, go through the mill, question yourself when you lose but should have won - but all this means nothing in the grand scheme of things.
