Tournament Flyer - Word Template

i'm looking for input from you AZers.

While this TOURNAMENT FLYER isn't "pretty", it is being designed to be efficient and useful. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

This file is made in the form of a word template file so that it can be used over and over again. The file I have uploaded and attached is a .doc file since I could not upload a word template file.

It should be able to be used by anyone with Microsoft Word.

The form is filled in by typing as I have shown in the word document file attached. The template would have only shaded boxes without any copy in any of the fields. The tournament promoter would enter information in the fields by typing whatever is appropriate. To move from field to field all you have to do is hit the TAB KEY. Do not hit the ENTER KEY.

I've incorporated several important things into the design and welcome all thoughts. KEEP IN MIND THAT THE FORM CAN BE NO LONGER THAN 11" and so adding fields is on a MOST NEEDED BASIS. Space is critical but I look forward to your design suggestions. Please critique each others ideas so that we can get a consensus of opinion so that the whole may be the beneficiary rather than one entity.

This template will be available to anyone who wishes to have a copy when I am finished, free of charge.

Nice thought. You could "insert a picture" - pool related at the top. Maybe change the font to smaller on some of the details to give more room for a picture. Can change the print to colors instead just black.

Jack, that's not a bad idea about the insert a picture. The picture could be a business's logo which would dress the flyer up and personalize it. I was trying to keep the type large enough so that you older guys wouldn't have to use your reading glasses.

Jack, I received a couple of other suggestions via PM and have incorporated some of your ideas and theirs to revise and update the TOURNAMENT FLYER.

Have you thought about using Publisher? Very easy to work with! I work for a Realtor and I am always making some kind of Flyer. PM me is you need some help.

Joey .... Not a bad idea, although most want the name in big colored font at the center top with the addresss, phone, etc.

Also, drink and food specials for the tournament, whether midnight breakfast will be served, recommended motels, motel address, phone, little map.. And some want special pool related graphics.

Also, whether cue repair guy will be on hand, who TD is, sponsors if any,

That's why each should be done individually. I know, I used to design them all the time when I was publishing 'The Green Felt', a billiards newsletter for the Wichita Area for over 3 years.

Great suggestions about the other items. I think they can be added to the OTHER section at bottom of form.

As to the header, I agree with you. Everyone likes their logo in big color and that is fine. They have room to add their logo as a header if they know how to do it. I may play around with a design that Allows anyone to make changes to a header. I might even get rid of the address and host name in the body as it could be incorporated into the header.

I'm trying to make an efficient tournament flyer that most anyone can use. Many pool room owners will be lucky if they can use MS Word let alone publisher but thanks for the offer. I'll keep you in mind.

I think the tournament flyer is a great idea.

As one who has today learned to read between the lines, there is some information I would like to have which would help me decide if I want to go to a tournament or not.

It is imperative for you to include the PHONE NUMBER and ADDRESS of the pool room. This is helpful if you've never been to the venue site. Once I've been to a joint, I'll remember it.

The first time I ever went to a Joss Northeast 9-Ball Tour event at Drexeline Billiards in Drexel Hills, Pennsylvania, the only way for me to obtain this information was via Google. I didn't know Mike Zuglan's phone number, and at that time, there was not much on Google about Drexeline Billiards.

I finally did Google up an address for Drexeline Billiards. We drove to Drexel Hills, using the address I put into Mapquest for Drexeline Billiards from my home in D.C. Guess what? It was the address of the owner. Yep, we drove right up to his front door. He was at the pool room. We were at his house. The tournament was getting ready to start in less than an hour, and we were totally lost.

HOTEL phone numbers and, if offered, PLAYER'S RATE is nice. I cannot tell you how many times I have had to call the pool room to ask for what's a nice hotel nearby. I cannot tell you how many times the people who work at the pool room have no clue where any lodging is near the pool room or venue site.

DRESS CODE is important. The first time I went to the Super Billiards Expo Pro Event with Keith, we went to the players meeting. Dawn Hopkins stated all players must have leather shoes and slacks. I was a green tournament-goer and did not know this would be a requirement for play in a pro event tournament. I explained to Dawn Hopkins after the players meeting that we did not pack any clothing like that. She was nice to me and, in fact, gave me a free pass to get in as Keith's girlfriend, but told me that Keith should know better. Now I know. Some newbies may not.

Another bit of information that might be a determining factor for spectators and players to go to a tournament is whether there is SMOKING or NO SMOKING. I have friend who will not go to tournaments if there is smoking permitted.

Also, a very small minority of players -- I mean really small -- would like to know if the establishment serves alcohol or not!

Jennie, I've incorporated some of your ideas as well as others that have been contributed. It actually is turning into a functional flyer that while it isn't a swan, it is no longer the ugly duckling.
