what say you folks about this idea. Just some pie in the sky, but I thought the idea had merits....

New tournament format for you folks to think about.

$200 entry fee (let's say 64 players)

$20,000 1st Place
$10,000 2nd Place
$5000 for 3rd place
$2000 for 4th place

Plus Calcutta money raises a pot for the winners too. (payout to 10th place)

Plus each match has it's own wager (player's money)

>>>> the following is the new format. The wagers between players is not part of the Tournament Payout. It's part of the excitement...

1st row of brackets = a $200 bet between players

2nd row of brackets = a $300 bet between players

3rd row of brackets = a $400 bet between players

4th row of brackets = $500 between players

5th row of brackets = $750 between players

6th row of brackets = $1000 between players

7th row of brackets = $2000 between players

8th row of brackets = $5000 between players

The numbers can be changed to protect the innocent...

Or how about this? Just make it a $650 entry fee and only pay out to the top 4 players?

64 players at $200 is only a $12,800 total purse. Where are you going to get the other $24,200 from?

Maybe he meant doll hairs.

Money doesn't add up???

Maybe I am a little confused, but the money just doesn't seem to add up to be able to pay out the prize money you show. Are you saying the payout is just from entry fees alone? Or entry fees plus gambling winnings as well? $200 for 64 players is only $12,800 total purse, and if someone were to go undefeated throughout the tournament, that would only account for $10,150 in gambling winnings. So, in order to get a total of $20,000 combined for 1st place, you would have to take $9,850 out of the $12,800 to guarantee 1st place $20,000. Also, the guy that loses the match for the hot seat and say gets beat in the rematch would lose more gambling than he could possibly win in prize money payout.

Did you possibly mean $500 or $600 for entry fee?

I didn't have in mind the players PAYOUT would be equal to the entry fees. There would have to be some ADDED Money.

The added excitement of gambling on each match was my main IDEA. As the tournament progresses, the stakes rise. Maybe that would erase the HO-HUMness of tournaments. It would sure be more exciting for the players, stakehorses & the audience (especially the Calcutta audience).

The tournament monies would have to be recovered from admission fees, sponsors & concessions.

Does anyone like that idea or ????

Well, if you're going to have ADDED money, why not add the whole kit n kaboodle? This is what we should do and we can do it weekly:

$10 entry, $1,000,000,000,000 added.
6.4 players

1st place: $500,000,000,000
2nd place: $250,000,000,000
3rd/4th place: $124,999,980
5th/6.4th place: $10
