Tournament Play. What do you prefer on who BREAKS

I talked with Mark Jarvis two days ago and recalled a 9 rack run he made at a tournament in the 80's. Many of us have seen the Accu-Stats recording of Danny Medina running 9 racks on Billy Incardona. Rudolfo luat did it too.

Let the winner break and let him put the best package on his opponent that he can. If you don't like that format, I say practice your lag.

I'm talking about the pro's. Did anybody watch on ESPN the 2000 BCA 9 ball finals Archer/Immonen the other day? Archer won the lag, ran five straight rack, made two safeties and the match was over! Mika barely got out of his chair IN THE FINALS! When you have the same wing ball going into the pocket every time, then a run out and the winner gets to get right back up there and do it again. There is no need for another player to sit there and watch, I could do that.

I love watching someone who is a master at his profession, but competition is what keeps the game alive!

I prefer winner breaks. I shouldn't because I'm not at the level where that is in my best interest but I like seeing good pool and if my opponent or myself(preferrably) put a nice run of 2-3-4 racks together then I don't want the alternate or loser break format to put a stop to it.

I didn't see the match, but I gather Mika didn't play very good return safeties or he didn't kick as well as he should have.

Winner breaks but as has been mentioned, 10-ball needs to be the game.

The switch over to 10-ball and ditching of 9-ball as the main pool game played at the pro level cannot take place fast enough IMO. The US Open, the DCC, the Reno Open, these need to be switched over because 9-ball has been a messed up game for a long time with bad breaking mechanics and has proven itself to be far too easy for the top 50 players in the world to allow the truly best players to clearly pull away from the pack.

I know some will be shocked to think of the US Open making such a shift or the DCC but honestly 9-ball is a large reason we are currently in the lowest point of the history of this sport, and trust me we are really there. We have no 9-ball world championships, we have almost no sponsership, there is no professional tour in America, very few true professional pool players in America, ect...

This sport is dying, it has never been at a lower point then right now, we lucky people of today are getting to see it's all time low since the game became a sport in the first place. Changes need to be made and those changes need to be significant or it is simply going to keep withering away until we have little left to even try to salvage by making a major change at that point.

It kinda reminds me of baseball and the path it has taken in history, for similar "how the game is played" reasons.

I prefer winner breaks. But I can see the argument for alternate breaks. Alternate breaks makes you concentrate on "holding serve". Food for thought...

Yeah, check it out. I know how it goes, "don't hate the player, hate the game" but that wasn't even a match.

Winner breaks is the only way it should be. Alternate and loser breaks is just an equalizer. It is a joke. Pool is about the only game/sport/hobby etc. that you can prevent your opponent from doing anything. If you are at the table, there is no possibility your opponent can beat you. By playing winner breaks, you can prevent your opponent from ever shooting. This is the way it should be. Just like 14.1. You shoot til you miss. In 8-ball, 9-ball, 10-ball, it isn't you shoot 8, 9, 10 balls or less and then you are done. You should get the break and continue your streak.

I get so sick of people saying there is nothing wrong with alternate breaks and loser breaks. Most of the time, this comes from weaker players that have no idea what they are talking about anyhow.
