Tournament slow play

Hi all,

I recently played in a one pocket tournament at a local room. The guy who runs these tournaments does a great job and I thoroughly enjoy my time when I go.However, this last tourney(2 weeks ago)took a turn for the worse after my first match.I finished my first match and was waiting for this other match to end so that I could play the winner. One of the guys is very notorious for slow play.To make a long story short, the match lasted over 5 hours!! That is ridiculous for a race to 3 in one pocket.

I seriously feel that there should be a time limit on these matches.Maybe 2 to 2.5 hours for a race to 3 and if the match is not over by then, whoever is leading at that point wins.Players should be given a 20 minute warning when the time comes. These guys completely put a halt to the entire tournament and it affected everyone.I just wanted to post this for people who run tourneys at their local rooms and let them know that it is very frustrating to have to wait that long because of 1 slow player.

1st off let me say you do have a reason to gripe.

with that said one pocket is a slow game. was either player deliberatly slow or was it a defensive battle ?

i can zip through a league match pretty quick but when it comes to a tournament i play completely different. i have had a race to 4 in 8 ball last 4 hours due to defensive battles with my opponent. i will do whatever it takes to win and if someone has to wait for an hour .....well thats their problem.

I completely see your point but an (amateur) tournament needs to proceed at a certain pace and I think it is appropriate to have a shot clock in certain circumstances.

uptable limit

Some tournaments will have a limit on balls uptable, spotting excess balls in the kitchen, to speed up play. The upcoming spotting becomes a factor in cb positioning.

Gambling....take as long as you take.

Local tournament...gotta make some adjustments in order to keep the tournament running...that day....and in the future.
