Tournaments and playing Pros!

I have a thought and I am sure it has been brought up before. I was telling a friend of mine that at a few tournaments I have been in that there have been Pros that show up and play. Like Vivian Villarreal, Jeremy Jones, Charlie Bryant, and another friend of mine actually played Corey Deuel last year! I hope I spelled all their names right!

Anyway I was telling a friend of mine how I don't know of any other sport where you could show up and get the chance to play a Pro player! You are not going to do it in the NFL, NBA, NHL, etc. I thought that it was really cool that you get that opprotunity.

I know the bad thing is that the Pros don't make what Pros in other sports do, so they add money to their pockets by playing in smaller open tournaments. However, I think some of them do it to hone in their skills, and also because of a love for the game. What do you all think?

Also does anyone know of any other sport where you might have the opportunity to match up against a Pro?

matching up with the best

Stock car racing, I think all forms of auto racing. If you have the dollars and can make speed you race.

Rifle and pistol competition you compete against the best in the world often regardless of your skill level including factory sponsored players. My first benchrest match, the man that literally wrote the bible on how to do it sat on the same bench I did, the relay before. I shot next to a hall of famer and it is a tough hall to get in. Walking around a small shoot I met many of the people I read about in magazines every month; legends of the industry, world champions, world record holders, all the big guns. Then I sat down beside them and shot against them!

Horse racing. Kings and old men that live in shacks are treated with equal respect if they know how to make a horse go fast and the man in the shack gets more respect than the king if he has a faster horse! I have seen one of the most powerful men in the world speaking to an old man whose barn is full of holes and looks likely to fall down at the next breeze. The leader of the US Senate was the one listening and nodding his head in respect.

I love open competition and that is the great thing about pool. You may not can get into every tournament but there are few players that you can't get a game with if you have some jingle in your pocket and an itch to test yourself against the best.

There are alot of people that fuss about it, because the pros should win. I personally agree with you, I love to have the oppertunity to play against them. To get better at this game you have to play the best and not be intimidated but study what they do. When I play safe against one of them most people I know might get a good hit, but then they either pocket the ball or get a good hit and leave a safe on me. That why I like to play them, if you let it, it will help your game.

Curling around here. Pick-up hockey and oldtimer hockey around here sometimes have former NHLers also.

In general I appreciate the point, where mere mortals mix with professionals pool is about the best.

Dave, might just show up to play at DCC one year for that very reason
